This thread has aged well.
Part of the problem is what the Raiders have been trying to do with Connor Cook isn't working. This is two seasons in a row that the Raiders gave Cook the No. 2 QB job before he gave it back. Like my daddy used to say, "You can't get whiskey out of a bottle of wine."
Gruden's energy would be better spent trying to develop EJ Manuel than it is Cook. Friday night, Manuel was 8-12 for 87 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions and a fumble with a QB rating of 87.8. Cook was 6-15 for 72 yards, an INT and a paltry QB rating of 27.6. The lone TD scored in the Raiders' 13-6 win over the Green Bay Packers was led by Manuel too. Not that he's a Nick Foles in waiting but he's a better option than Cook and would figure to be even better with more reps
Gruden asked if backup QB is on this roster: "I don't know."

If you aren't accurate in college it's unlikely you will improve in the NFL.

Something that I don't believe was brought up in this thread before the draft but apparently Cook's dad is an even bigger tool.

Galko and others are highlighting these pre-draft observations on the heels of a piece in DetroitSportsRag.net that showed a series of tweets from Connor Cook's father Chris Cook that are certainly not a good look for his son, and are being pointed to as a major reason his son tumbled in the draft, losing millions of dollars in potential contract money in the process.
Among those tweets were a litany of offensive language and hate speech often directed at media either covering his son or just simply saying something he doesn't like. This offensive language pretty much ran the gamut including homophobic slurs, sexism, racism, xenophobia, and threatening a player who played against his son in a game. All in some pretty terrible grammar ("your an idiot!").
Chris Cook's antics aren't just relegated to twitter, either. DSR said they were contacted by sources saying "it was well known" that other MSU parents requested not to sit anywhere near Chris Cook during games. In the Deadspin piece that expanded on what DSR posted, you can see why, as a reader claims Chris Cook punched an OSU student in the side of the head in the bleachers for talking trash at a game, giving him a concussion.
