Or with a long, rangy WR with huge upside in Parker (if he is there)? Or the best CB in the draft in Waynes (if he is there)? Or a guy with the biggest upside as a 34 DE, in Armstead (who is going to go earlier than expected)? A tough call to make for the guys making money. I tend to go the more conservative route, ala what the Cowboys did this year when they passed on Manziel and selected Zach Martin.
MadDog,
I am so freaking pumped after reading your notes. Seriously, not even joking...
This tidbit at the end I absolutely love. My draft crushes have gone from White to Cooper to Collins...... and I stayed on Collins for a long time until I found guys like Goldman, Harold and Erving. I will seriously have to watch Carl Davis more because you speak so highly of him. The hard part is that I will hate seeing these guys go to teams I loathe. I just hope we get one of them.
By no means are these positions are biggest weakness on the team but we have to stay ahead of contracts and departures and I think when you see a high rated football player still on the board, you find a way to get them on your team. Surround your coaches with tons of talent. White and Cooper will be gone and I just can't see Baalke trading up that high. He has traded in the past but to move up into the top 5 or 10 is costly. I think he knows there is tons of talent available.
I do like Harold and just like Aldon he could come in situationally his rookie year. I just don't know what the long term plan with Aldon is...
That leaves me with guys like Goldman, Collins and Erving. I am with you on the conservative route with Oline. I think they are easier to peg in the 1st round and you can be confident that your odds are great to get a stud. Erving is my dark horse. I know Kilgore played well so people don't see the need but what is Kilgore's ceiling? Erving is huge! put Erving in the center and have Boone and Thomas next to him
.
Most would say 15 is too early for a center. I would agree that we could trade back I just think it's tricky. What range do you think Erving goes in? I have seen him mocked at the end of round one. Or do you see a team that would also covet him that we need to be in front of if we wanted him?
