confident, alpha competitor who can effectively deal with #1 receivers and keep them from dominating a game. a big help for the 49ers.
rd 2: phillip dorsett wr miami. a true vertical threat who is not just a one-trick pony. track fast AND football fast. he will separate and get open at will; defense will have to account for him. torry, dorsett, and ellington -- a whole, new era for the 49ers. guys will be open downfield; kaep just has to get them the ball.
rd 2: preston smith, d-line miss. skilled and versatile. great hands. passionate player. because he has excellent hand strength and technique, this guy can be effective in any gap and even out at 3-4 olb. great versatility, and a great locker room tone setter.
rd 3: eric rowe, cb/fs utah. this guy is a very smooth, effective athlete and player. versatile. he's got size and he executes on-field movements with ease. that's a sign of very good athleticism. his skill set will allow him to play well everywhere except as an in-the-box safety. this pick is also insurance for reid's concussion concerns. i know baalke thinks jimmie ward is that guy, but he's wrong, ward is too thin to ever be a full-time safety; he won't hold up. rowe is the guy who can be a corner or safety -- without any limitations. anyway, that's just talk about "what ifs," let's talk about what he'll do right now: solid, outside, nfl corner play.
