The hybrid thing hurts his stock, but he's clearly a WR to me. He has those long legs and choppy steps so his Combine wasn't too shocking. He's going to be a steal if used correctly. He reminds me a little of Kelvin Benjamin.

Funchess is starting to look good to me. People think he'll go in the mid-to-late 2nd round. Good value.

I think it's kinda ridiculous to assume players can make position switches based off nothing but their size. Asking a 230-235 lb athlete with zero experience blocking to play in-line and square up against seasoned DE's is a recipe for disaster.
I would like Funchess in the 2nd round round (previously said I wouldn't want him sooner than 3rd) to compete for the #3 WR spot with Patton and Ellington.
Regardless of his 40 time, he has great body control, cannot be press covered, and has great wiggle as a route runner.
If he didn't have questionable hands and his production wasn't sub-par for a #1, I would be ok with taking him in the 1st.
The poster I replyed too wants him to replace VD that's why I posted that....The thing is he does have questionable hands and production was sub-par, if he's there in the 3rd then sure.

I lean more towards this too. I don't see him as a tight end either, and while he's nowhere near the prospect that Benjamin was, I like Funchess in the 3rd.

He's too slow to be a WR, see him as a TE, better.

Devin's best production at Michigan was as a TE (2012 and 2013), switched to WR for 2014 and his numbers dropped off.

He's a seam buster. A size/athletic mismatch against most. No need to try and make him fit a position.

Part of me wants to gamble on, part of me says stay the eff away.... LOVE his size, love his burst off the line, love his feet and body control... I could live with gambling on his hands improving if his production wasn't completely mediocre.
Don't wanna make this into a Perriman debate, but I defend his drops/hands because he produces and makes monster plays and bails the QB out more often than he has a bad drop. With Funchess, I feel you get the bad drops.... but you don't get the "make up" plays like you would from say... a T.O. Nobody would dispute that T.O. had bad hands compared to elite NFL WR's, but that didn't stop him from being a HOF caliber WR because he had way more plays where he made a big play out of nothing or took i to the house than a drop.
I think the 3rd round is good for Funchess... 4th I'd feel more comfortable with a 700 yd WR with iffy hands and potential... would like to have him if he's not expected to be our future #1 and we already have drafted one of the elite prospects.

Not a fan of either, but you know that lol IF Perriman is sitting there at 46 then maybe and I agree a 3rd would be the earliest I would grab Funchess.
A 14% drop rate is huge and I just don't see a natural pass-catcher in him. I don't see a smooth running WR (like T.O) in Perriman. He rounds out his routes and a lot of those drops happened when he was open. I think he could be very good, but it will take some time.
We will agree to disagree on him I'll eat crow if I'm wrong lol.

Funchess is raw. He came out a year early and is still learning to be a true WR. I think there is enough potential there to say he'd be a good value in the 3rd.

I'd rather see Baalke take TE Walford in the 2nd and maybe McBride or Mayle later. Although I look for Vernon to have a big year, it may not be enough for Baalke to re-sign him...there's that "brand" thing Vernon seems to care too much about. Mayle appeals to me because he's a physical WR...excellent size & toughness. He had some drop issues, but I think Henry can help him get over that. Former basketball player...terrific athlete.

I really like Mayle too.
I'm thinking he'll go 3rd-4th???
