Baakle screwed the pooch last by not taking a WR until he did. His track record on drafting WR is horrible. He'll have that in the back of his mind and stay away from one in the first round, especially Smith. Given the fact that the BIG TEN produces garbage WR prospects over the last 15 years, I'd stay away.

I don't think Baalke will take another small receiver in the first round, he can't afford to miss like that again. Plus we took Ellington last year and I think they are going to use him more next year.

Ignoring the Smith pick, it looks like a solid draft class.
But I think strongly that if Baalke were to make a pick like that, it'd be for Sammie Coates and not Devin Smith unless a trade down occurs.

So because he once missed on a small WR, he is afraid of missing on another again. Therefore he won't pick one in round 1? C'mon man.

OTC--an interesting mock. Do you really think Baalke will spend a 1st round pick on a WR who will remind many of Jenkins? LOL...I dunno! There are quite a few WRs rated above Smith. But I agree with you that he seems to need to be a contrarian.

Stay out of my mind! LOL...unless you agree! I really think people do tend to shy away from areas where they whiffed before. Kind of like drafting a DL from NC.

No sarcasm...I just thought it was funny that you were disagreeing with Chancey while I was typing a similar post to his! LOL! I would be surprised if Baalke weren't a bit guy shy at taking a slim WR ahead of where the conventional wisdom had him scheduled to go.

Ah, you are referring to Smith in particular? Then, I agree with you but not with your argument.

Well, CBS has seven WRs rated above Smith so I could see them taking White, Parker or Strong--who are all big (6'3" 210+), fast, strong receivers--but why would they take an undersized guy who reminds everyone of failure? Unless there is a really good reason to believe he's better than the other seven.
The one thing CBS says about Smith that could be the difference is that he has made a career of beating DBs deep...which the niners could really use. The down side is " inconsistent tracking skills, which makes him late to adjust and leads to focus drops." They also say his route running is suspect except for the go route.

OTC...I like your mock...a lot. I'm really high on Malcolm Brown...who at 6-4, 305 has the size, quickness and strength to play inside and out. Anderson could be part of a DE rotation, not sure he's got the stuff to be a starter in the pros.
WRT Devin Smith, I was impressed at his play vs both 'Bama and Oregon. He's not only fast, but has really good size and toughness. He's got that consistent big-play ability we really need to stretch the field and give opponents something to worry about. 1st or 2nd rd, I think he represents great value to beef up our WR corps.
The OL from Hobart (where?) sounds intriguing...I'm all for a guy who can play both OG and OT. With Boone being the best swing OT option now, it'd really give Tomsula a better option to have a guy like Marpet.
