3rd Draft in a Row Without a Projected Starter

Aside from Eric Reid, this looks to me like the third year in a row where we won't have a starter out of the draft class. This has got to catch up to us at some point.
2012 was a bad draft.

You didn't notice the strength of 2013? There will be 4 or 5 starters out of that draft. It is an indication - and I shouldn't have to point this out to a supporter - of the strength of the roster that it is hard to take a starting role and rookies can't just walk in to it. So in effect you are criticising the strength of the team.

And you don't think there will be a starter out of this draft? Baalke does.

So yeah, having a really strong roster is a real problem which will catch up with us sometime.
You are really oversimplifying things. The reason they are not projected starters is because we are so talented. On most teams all of our picks so far, would be projected starters. If this wasn't the case, we would be a bad team with a bad roster. We hardly ever start rookies, we develop them. All of our picks project as starters in the coming years, just not now. Although, I would think Marcus Martin has a chance to earn the C spot this year.

How can you start a thread with this title, and the first statement is this? I cannot believe this place sometimes

I agree with original post.

We need an impact starter or two. We do have a solid roster but that has only proved to make us competitive but not good enough to be the best. We had all the ammo to get an impact, starter but instead we have players that will contribute in 2-3 years when the guys we have now are done and proved not to be good enough to win Super Bowl.

2011
Aldon- spilt time with harrlson. Aldon beasted on sacks that yr. Helped with record defense. In a shortened yr
Kaep- took over for alex mid way in 2012.
Culliver- before injury was our top rated cb. As a rookie was able to handle calvin johnson. Pretty impressive.
Colin jone- sp teams stud we traded to panthers
Bruce miller- defensive player im college. Took over at fullback...high level player borderline to arguably probowl fb. Thanks to tutelidge from coach tom rathmam
2012
Ya can have that yr....
2013
Eric reid like ya said!
Latemeir, caradine red shirted. 1st rd talent with a yr learning playbook. Corey lemoneir....ok seriously brooks n aldon. Corey thrown in on passing downs during aldons hiatus. Seriously how many can pull what aldon did yr 1?
Morris tbd fast as hell part of sp teams fumble/td this yr!!
2014
Ward, should edge out start at nickle
Stevie johnson- loyd? Patton? Who will johnson not beat for minimum of slot position!!!

We have plenty of strong n great depth! Carradine, latameir, ward, hyde are all first rd talents who start out this yr!!!

This aint 2005 we have a ferociously strong team with damn near a dozen all pros n even more probowlers!!!

Respect your opinion?
Im loving it, we are in great position!! For now and future..

There are not many players in this draft that would start over what we already have, if any actually.
No starters?? Did they announce that when the guys were drafted.....???

"With the (enter number) pick, the 49ers select NON starter (insert name) from (insert name) University......" fuqing Goodell!!!

Who in this draft? In your opinion would have been absolute upgrade over our starters now? And how much would ya have traded to get in top 15?

How ya feel bout steviie johnson? He'd be a starter on most teams if not all!!

No he would without doubt be a starter on every team...
We are loaded with talent, resign our guys and, since we have a good record, draft late. Yeah, that's a good explanation why not too many rookies make the starting 25 (I count the 3 kicking specialists too)..

2011 was a great draft, but we were drafting high since the 2010 season was so awful. That's not the whole story of course, since we got gems in the later rounds like Miller, Hunter and Culliver, and of course we traded up for Kaep. But it did help with Aldon, who as I remember every draft "expert" (read: "idiot with too much time on their hands") labeled that favourite label of all: a "reach". I love that term. So presumptuous and opinionated. Anyway, even that great draft ended with all the "experts", and half the Webzone too, moaning about:

"Reaches" (Aldon)
"Projects" (Miller)
"Very raw and unready to make an immediate impact" (Kaepernick)

2012 was indeed terrible, although I personally put it down to chasing need over BPA. I think that our FO believed the hype about our receiver problems after the NFCCG loss the previous year (you know, one pass to receivers completed all game) and tried to flood the position through FA and the draft. But whiffing on every single pick (assuming LMJ is gone, which I think will happen if we draft a corner today who can also return punts) is certainly a mark against the FO.

Last year they went for Reid, and that turned out rather well. I think we'll all agree there.

So far, I like what we've been doing this draft. I would like to see us draft at least one, or even two corners today, but other than that it's been going really well. We keep giving attention to the OL, replaced Dixon with a guy who may even help replace Frank next year as a 1-2 with Lattimore, drafted a nickel back early, and got one more ILB/special team prospect. Do I expect every single pick to pan out? No, although it would be a nice lottery win if they did. But I'm confident we'll get 1 or 2 big contributors this year, and hopefully have 1 or 2 more emerge from 2015 and after. Drafting is also there to help with the future: do you remember all the hate on Brock in his first seasons, and now he's the projected starter. The same thing happened with Brown, who was well regarded and thought of as a steal, but even he took a year or two to become "Tarrell Brown" as we know him now.
