Cooks is too small. He'll get broke in half in this league. He has a real small lower half.

Not sure if serious.
Brandin Cooks-5'10", 189.
Antonio Brown-5'10", 185.
T.Y. Hilton-5'9", 183.
Kendall Wright-5'10", 191.
DeSean Jackson-5'10", 175.
Wes Welker-5'9", 185.
Randall Cobb-5'10", 192.
Both Wright and Hilton had very good games against Seattle without getting "broken." .

I am a big fan of Mewhort. Not so much with Cooks -- but I won't complain if we take him. We were looking all off-season for a slot receiver, so I think that will remain the priority. We will take another player at WR only in the case that they are so high on the board we can't pass.

Fales said Harbaugh told him the 49ers were going to pick a QB. Not saying it's true, just that Fales said Harbaugh told him that it was going to happen.

That's why I was looking at Hoffman in the 7th. That far down the draft board, for a big redzone target, he's worth a look.

Of that list only Wright was a first round pick.

Slight corrections: Welker is 5-8, Jackson 5-11, Hilton 5-10, but the point remains, Cooks is not gangly-framed. He's compact and thick.
The questions with Cooks are that his arms are shorter than the above players, and he cannot block at the level of most of those players. Brown, Cobb, and Wright all are at least solid blockers. Cooks has a hard time because he does not have the length to get his hands on most DBs. He will need to be a package player and #3 at best, in my opinion.

Maybe being a little sarcastic.

What source are you using for those heights? Just curious because everywhere I look I see Jackson as 5'10" and Welker as 5'9".

As far as arm length goes, that was a major knock on Welker, very short arms, right about 30". Kendall Wright actually has shorter arms than Cooks.
Antonio Brown's and Randall Cobb's arms are just slightly longer, by a quarter of an inch. Jackson is the one who has good arm length, I think he was around 32", same as Hilton.
I don't think his arm length is a major limitation that will ultimately determine whether Cooks succeeds or fails. He does need to be coached up to improver as a run blocker but its an issue that I think can be overlooked if he produces on the field like his potential suggests. I think what is between his ears is going to determine his success in the NFL. He has the talent and the athleticism but its that mentality that separates the top receivers from...AJ Jenkins.

If Antonio Brown was available in this draft, would you spend a 1st rounder on him? There were people willing to trade a 1st round pick for Mike Wallace not too long ago. Obviously Cooks is still all potential at this point but if he turns out to be as good as Brown, do you think anyone here will complain that the 49ers used a first round pick on him?

Don't see Cooks as a replacement for Crabtree...at best he's a slot receiver, which would help the passing offense that way. Think it's essential Baalke get MC's successor early. If he trades up I'm hoping it's for a CB, really like Fuller's game and ST abilities.
Baalke could leverage picks to move up in 2nd rd and take either Matthews or Adams...Latimer's arguably in that group, too.
The slot receiver/KR could be met by taking Ellington. That way, Baalke comes out of the draft w/Crabtree's replacement and a speedy slot guy with excellent KR skills.
TB does like Breeland, so he could still be one of his picks. Another option would be Desir, a big, long-armed CB.

Why again do the 49ers need a replacement for Crabtree? Who decided that Crabtree wasn't going to get re-signed? I keep seeing this repeated on here like its common knowledge but I haven't heard anything to suggest that the 49ers weren't going to do everything possible to sign him. With the salary cap increasing, who knows what the 49ers can get done. I'm more in favor of the idea of Iupati possibly walking in free agency.
The 49ers may or may not re-sign Crabtree, however, what they need right now is a speedy/explosive vertical threat at receiver. Cooks fits that bill for today, for the future, we'll just have to see how things play out. For the time being the 49ers have Michael Crabtree, what they don't have at WR is a true vertical threat.

Yeah, I don't see that happening.
If Cooks were 6'0" he'd be in the conversation as the top WR with Watkins. I think if he's there at 18, the Jets will be all over him. He's the perfect WR for them to put alongside Decker and Hill.
Cooks would be nice and might make an impact right away. But, I still like a CB over WR in the first. I really think Patton (barring injuries) is gonna light it up... Boldin/Crabs/Patton and maybe Lloyd>>>the CBs we have now. It appears we need a lot of help (yesterday) at CB than WR.
Cooks may go before the twenties, as a lot of people think... we'll see. I think/hope he slides and we get him by making a couple of moves.

That's still a whole bunch of possession receivers with no vertical threat at WR. I think with Baalke's ability to find defensive backs, cornerback is a less pressing issue than some expect.
I can see the argument that some make of taking a WR early and then go fishing for a CB later, a position where they've certainly had more success with player development.
Personally I'd be happy with Verrett or Fuller early and Herron or Ellington in the 3rd but neither of those guys is as polished as Brandin Cooks. It's for that reason I think the 49ers are keenly interested in him, he's much more ready to go, right out of the box, so to speak.
I also think, once again, that Breeland is being highly underrated and that confuses me a bit. He'd be a great fit for this defense, has the tenacity and physicality that the team looks for in their DB's.
With Brock and Culliver starting on the outside, Breeland, Wright, Morris and Allen providing depth along with Cox and Cook fighting for a spot, I think the 49ers would be pretty solid at the position.

I don't think people realize just how good Antonio Brown is. And I've been comparing Cooks to Brown all season.Originally posted by Phoenix49ers:Originally posted by Scoots:Of that list only Wright was a first round pick.
