Two things, the niners will draft a project QB, I am pretty sure of it, also, to replace dixon as a ST, they may seek a person who doesn't play RB, maybe, FB or even TE. Another possibility is ILB or S.
I also don't think that Verret or Fuller will be there in the 2nd round and must be drafted in the first and if they are, they will be gone within the first 5-8 pick in the 2nd. The only thing I can see of getting a high 2nd is if one of the top picking teams wants a QB, because they didn't take one in the first, like if the Texans go JC or some otherway then go after a QB kind of thing scenario. Just like how the niners went Aldon and Kaep. Or like how Cinci did that same year.

Pretty solid but if they trade back Verett will be gone in the 2nd round. He probably won't even be around at 30. Not feeling Sims in the 3rd.

I appreciate all of your comments. Love the feedback and discussion and I think many of you have valid points.
I sometimes like to throw a head-scratcher in there just because we seem to get one almost every year with Baalke.
The fact that the 49ers have interviewed some RB prospects is interesting, but I do agree, we are very unlikely to take a running back that early, if at all. The most likely scenario in my opinion is we will play out this season with what we have to find out who Gore's successor is. That will be based on Lattimore. Either way, the 49ers would be wise to extend Hunter.

I like this mock. It's realistic. I could see us moving either up or down RD1. But my gut says we move up. We are so close to a Championship I think Baalke does what it takes to move up and grab a missing piece.

Itz amazing how people want a dude that is smaller then AJ N think he'll become something great Hhmmm funny ....
Being a buff alum I have to sadly agree. Richardson was great at taking advantage of coverage breakdowns, but he might even be skinnier than AJ and was taken out of most games when they werent blow outs. He will need a ton of work in the weight room just to get to average size... sound familiar?

Originally posted by AllTimeGreat:I agree with you, I don't think we should use one on a high pick either, but I have to say the depth in this LB class (both inside and outside) kinda sucks.Originally posted by OnTheClock:Originally posted by AllTimeGreat:I'll have to check out Carlos Fields. From all the research I've been doing, I've come away extremely unimpressed with the linebacker options this year that are going to be after the 2nd round.
The 49ers are very good at pinpointing outside-inside players, meaning versatile players that have the free-roaming athleticism and instincts to excel in both areas. With Bowman out, I would not be surprised to see Brooks, Skuta, and Wilhoite all split time inside filling the void, because all three have experience there. We have a tremendous amount of disguising we can do with them.
Bowman was an outside linebacker we moved inside and it worked beautifully. I'm sure we could find another, but I don't think we should use a high pick when we have so many pieces that can hold down the fort until Bowman's back. The ones I like the most right now in that late range are: Carlos Fields, Khairi Fortt, and Marquis Flowers.
I wanted to like Khairi Fortt, but from what I've been able to see of him I've been highly disappointed. It looked like he was guessing a lot on run plays, and seemed to spend a lot of time wandering around the field seeming to not know what to with himself and didn't really see the sideline to sideline speed he's supposed to have. Maybe I just saw video of his bad games or something but I was very disappointed.
Not trying to derail your thread too much further but what do you think about James Morris out of Iowa? I was actually watching video of Christian Kirksey but he seemed to jump off the page to me so I watched more cut ups of him and he seems to have a knack for making the big plays. He put up a 4.60 at his pro day and at 6'1" 240 he is the perfect size for our scheme, but he didn't look like he had that type of speed on tape and he doesn't seem to be very highly regarded among internet draft "experts."
But like I said I'll definitely be checking Fields out. You have me intrigued.
Another player I've recently added to my "really like as an ILB" list would be Brock Coyle of Montana. Check him out. Another terrific small-school football player who simply made plays.
As far as Morris, I kind of like him. A little more athletic than he looks. Diagnoses plays pretty well and uses arm extension solidly to stay free from blocks in the run game, but doesn't appear to be a pass-rushing threat or someone who can break free with any kind of moves when a linemen does get a hand or two on him.
Fortt is a major underachiever who I think needs a good coach. All-world athleticism. But primitive instincts make him only worth a late-rounder.
