Before the draft, errybody was like "Man, if this guy was a couple inches taller, he'd easily be a Top 10 pick" and I hear the same sorts of comments about Verrett. If a guy is that talented, I think the height becomes less of an issue, particularly if you've got ups the way Verrett does. With a 39" vertical, he can get up higher than a much taller guy like Jordan Matthews, giving him a better ability to play the ball in the air. People get overly focused on a DB's height vs a WR but the focus should be on a DB's ability to play the ball. If you can jump almost 40", it's still going to be tough for teams to throw over the top on you normally. Verrett has a better vertical than guys like Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson and basically any other cornerback on the 49ers(Perrish Cox-32.5", Chris Culliver-38", Eric Wright-36", Tramaine Brock-36")
I see a lot of teams passing up on this guy for one reason or another and then really regretting it a couple years down the road. His gametape doesn't lie, he has outstanding awareness and fluidity on the field, I don't doubt he can hold his own against the Percy Harvin's and Wes Welker's of the NFL, which are just two of the shifty, faster receivers that the 49ers will be running into this upcoming season.
Not true.
Matthews 6´3" vertical 35.5"
Verrett 5´9" vertical 39"
Standing next to each other Matthews still jumps 2.5" higher.
