He's my pick if we can't get one of the better DEs available. I still believe try to create more chaos up front will help us more than putting two rookies and the secondary. But no one can make a serious argument against the ability of Verrett as a starter on the outside or as our slot corner (still a starter).
Good post!

Weaknesses: Lack of elite height and length shows against most receivers. Lanky build and doesn't have the frame to pack on too much more muscle. Lacks ideal hand strength to consistently finish or easily shed blocks. Room to improve his tackling technique, especially in space, hitting too high and losing immediate leverage. Will pop up out of his backpedal too soon and needs to play with more consistent pad level in his transition technique. Needs to eliminate the mental mistakes with too many offsides and holding penalties on his resume. needs to do a better job finding the ball with his back to the line of scrimmage. Some durability concerns after several nagging injuries plagued him in 2013, most notably a shoulder injury.

Jason Verrett, CB, TCU: Verrett had already been on the fringes of Day 1 consideration thanks to his flawless game tape; this strong combine performance will undoubtedly thrust him into first-round chatter. He blazed the 40 in 4.38 seconds and posted one of the top vertical jumps (39.0) of the entire event. He followed up the strong showing in athletic drills with a terrific performance in the position-specific portion of the workout. Verrett dazzled scouts with his swivel hips and explosive breaks while also displaying strong hands and ball skills. Although Verrett's slender frame (he checked in at 5-foot-9, 189 pounds) will prompt some teams to look at him as a nickel back, the overall athleticism and skills showcased this weekend would make him a viable starter in most schemes.

Verrett is an explosive, instinctual player. He'd be a steal at #30 if he's on the board. Only reason he would be there is because he's 5'9". The skill set says he's a top 15 talent.

if he can play well at 5'9" the guy is a football player. sometimes the smaller dudes are actually better because they dont rely on physical size or strength to get the job done, their technique has to be legit. im not against it but i dont want our whole secondary to be small either for when we play the megatrons, andre johnsons and julio jones' of the world

Ideally you want some balance in the secondary. You take a guy like Verrett and then you draft someone like Desir, Aikens, Cockrell...etc to develop.
If Baalke could somehow pull off both Fuller and Verrett, that'd be the ultimate homerun.

i wish i could be as excited but i dont know anyone in this draft hahaha. i do think having a little guy back there could be a liability at times but if the guy can play he can handle himself. its not like they dont have to play against tall receivers in college.

I saw Verrett lock down guys like Beckham Jr, he's clearly got ability, just stick on the other teams smaller receivers, slot guys...etc, he'll do well. People bring up Calvin Johnson and its like, man, big or small, all cornerbacks have issues defending Megatron.
