Niners awarded 3rd round Compensatory Pick

Niners awarded 3rd round Compensatory Pick

We should target a center with this third round comp pick and move down the board with the other 5 picks to pick #1 a CB and #2 a WR. Yes I would love one of the hard hitting safeties or a tackle to challenge Dorsey/Williams for a starting spot but our two biggest needs is definitely a starting CB and a quick #3 receiver. In regards to a CB, once GIlbert and Dennard go, we better be in position to pick a CB before anyone else if we want our man. Gilbert will most definitely go to the Lions, so Dennard might be the wild card here, but if he goes in the teens, then expect us to move up quickly to get either Verrett, Roby, or Fuller. With the receivers, it looks like Watkins, Evans, and then Lee will go early. Benjamin would be my guess to be the next one to fall but it could be others such as Beckham or Cooks. If Cooks and Benjamin go before Beckham, boy would it be tempting to do what we can to pick up this dangerous player plus a top CB. Can it be done with these late round picks? Let's hope, wait, and see. ;)

Great news on the 3rd rounder. I hope Baalke can find a way to trade up higher into the first round.

Would love to see us get Marqise Lee.
How long has the NFL been awarding teams compensatory picks?
Very pleasantly surprised that the Niners got a 3rd and not a 4th.

It's interesting how Baalke trades depth for draft picks. Specially with coaches that have a knack of developing talent. Harbaugh with QB's and Fangio with OLB/De's like Cam Johnson and Haralson. I think it's a brilliant move to take advantage of coaching talent to get the edge on the competition. Now we can use those draft picks to shore up weak spots on our team.

If we would have kept BJ Daniels, I bet he'd have been at least a 7th round pick for the SeaChickens this year, or to a team in desperate need of a backup QB in the right circumstances. I like the fact that Baalke stockpiles 7th rounders. 7th rounder Marcus Cooper last year would be the equivalent of a high mid rounder in todays draft after development.

Regarding centers, I'd like a powerful yet mobile center to dominate that middle nose man or the DT playing the 2 technique. Maybe Johnathan Martin can move inside? I dunno. I do think that Goodwin's age and lack of mobility last year really hampered Gore in his middle runs. If Gore can gash people up the middle like he used to with a center that can dominate a NT one on one, or trap a DT, the power off tackle is really going to explode and gain him yardage.

I think CB definitely is a priority in this draft, but a player like Mike Evans or Cooks is hard to pass up if they fall to us. I've always believed defenses win championships, but talent like Mike Evans or Cooks are once in 5 years or once in a decade kind of talents. I personally think the Coryell deep strike play pass offense suits Kaepernick more than the short to intermediate passing of the WCO. I think Colin can make 3rd and 4rth rounder speed burners produce like first rounder's though, and so I'd place my draft strategy with yours, namely defensive back first and WR second.

Why would anyone be surprised? Did everyone miss Goldson's contract deal with the Bucs? This was talked about a year ago by Maiocco and Barrows.

Yeah, but even the experts had us getting no better than a 4th, so it was a pleasant surprise.

the late 3rd in this draft is a big deal. there are a bunch of starter-quality guys at that pick. we very well could have a long-term starter in a year or two from this pick.

No.

We have the ammo to select good players in a deep draft.
