The MVP QB that was in the Superbowl wasn't a good enough passer to beat the Seahawks. Kap played a better game than Manning did, and if it wasn't for his legs, we would have been blown out. That was the best pass defense in the NFL.
Still doesn't change what I said.
It might not change it but he was far from the reason we didn't make the superbowl. We had zero running game without him vs SEA, he was part of the reason, but he was also part of the reason we were in the SB the year before and in the NFCCG. You say he isn't a good enough passer to warrant that pay scale? The pay scale is already determined with the Cutler, Romo, Flacco, and Ryan contracts and he deserves to be close to what those guys get.
Nope, we shouldn't overpay because they did, your logic is backwards. I like Kap, but he is not an 18 million dollar a year qb...yet.
The market is already set, he is worth 18 million now, and will be more by next season even if he doesn't get any better and has the same exact season as he just had.
Seriously? You list four of the most overpayed quarterbacks in the game, whose teams will suffer because so much of their cap is tied up in one position, and you think that is helping your argument? I like Kap, don't want anyone else @ qb, but he is going to have to improve a lot in certain areas of his game to be a top tier passer. I think he can do it, but he's not there yet. I cringe whenever I think about our team becoming one dimensional because a huge chunk of the cap is eaten up by one player. Take Manning and the colts for example. They could have won at least a couple of more titles if only they had been able to spend less money on Peyton and more on shoring up their defense.
Flacco
Ryan
Cutler
Rivers
Romo
Vick even got paid a ton a while back
Stafford
Schaub makes over 15 million
QB's get paid, he is better than Schaub and everyone on that list. Im not the one setting the market, the NFL tams are. It is what it is, if he doesn't get it here, he will from another team. 18 million is the price tag and it is out there for him. Would you take a salary hit of about 20% so your company could bring in other guys, or would you go to a company that is going to pay you that extra 20%? The market is the market, the 49ers don't have to pay market rates for QB's if they don't want to, but they will never have a top 10 to 15 QB if they don't.
Luck will make over 18
Wilson will make over 18
Cam will make over 18
Romo, Ryan, Flacco, Cutler, and Stafford all make about 18 or over with Ryan and Flacco at 20 million. Rodgers, Brees, Manning make about 20 million.
That is 11 QB's that will be in the 18 or above range. Eli and Big Ben got paid a while back and they set the bar for these guys, and Brady made a bunch of money in his career and took a small paycut at age 36.
What would you pay for a top QB, and what top QB will come play for under 18 million? Rodgers? Nope. Manning? Nope. Brady? Only in NE after age 35. Brees? Nope, played hardball with his own team. Rivers? Not in this market and the year he just had. Cutler? Nope just got paid. Ryan? Nope. Flacco? Nope. Luck? Nope. WIlson? Nope. Cam? Nope.
