MBA's mock draft vers 3.0 - Post Combine mock

After the underwear Olympics, here we go with another mock. This is based on CBS Sports Draft prospect rankings of 2/28/14 and no trades.

Round 1 Jason Verrett CB TCU 5'9" 189 lbs - NCAA leader since 2012 with 30 passes defensed (8 INT and 30 PBU); Rogers replacement in slot
Round 2a Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss 6'2" 221 lbs - showed more speed than I thought he had; someone to stretch the field for our offense
Round 2b Deone Bucannon SS Washington St 6'1" 216 lbs - replacement for Whitner or added depth at worst
Round 3a Kelcy Quarles DT South Carolina 6'4" 297 lbs - quick, strong and tenacious; added depth at DE
Round 3b Jeremiah Attaochu OLB Georgia Tech 6'3" 252 lbs - athletic pass rusher with long arms who also took some reps inside at the Senior Bowl
Round 3c Bruce Ellington WR South Carolina 5'9" 197 lbs - we need someone to add quickness and burst at WR; KR ability is a bonus (Comp pick)
Round 4 Aaron Murray QB Georgia 6'0" 207 lbs - leading passer in SEC history and a great pickup in the 4th round
Round 5 Jack Mewhort OT Ohio St 6'6" 309 lbs - swing OT
Round 6 Walt Aikens CB Liberty 6'1" 205 lbs - A big, press man corner who also plays well in run support
Round 7 Spencer Long OG Nebraska 6'4" 315 lbs - Baalke injury special; depth for interior line
Round 7a Jarick McKinnon RB Georgia Southern 5'9" 209 lbs - former option QB and KR; replacement for Dixon on the roster
Round 7b Trey Millard FB Oklahoma 6'2" 253 lbs - Swiss Army Knife FB, Blocker, TE; another Baalke injury special

Nice mock. Is Mewhort in the 5th rd a defineate upgrade over Bykowski who we drafted last year and spent the year on the practice squad learning our system?

Might replace McKinnon with a pure return specialist like Dri Archer but your mock works well with our needs. Looking forward to the draft to see how it all works out for us.
Very nice mock. Is this assuming Whitner is gone? If so and Bucannon pans out and can start from day 1, this is an amazing draft.

Right now, I honestly don't know. I think it's a coin flip. I just think either way, we could use another safety who is good in pass coverage as an upgrade over Dahl.
Great mock. Verrett is my draft crush and would be the perfect replacement for Rogers. Murray has a chance to be a alex smith type of player for us.
Overall good.

I'm afraid that Quarles was only good because of Clowney.
According to sources Mewhort should not fall that deep.
BUT those two are not biggies by any means.

Do like Moncrief, Murray and Ellington in particular.

Very good mock. Everything except Moncrief is different from mine, but I still like all those players. Verrett, Bucannon, Quarles, Aikens, Milliard are all excellent picks.

Very cool. Talent evaluation isn't really my strong suit (I thought Michael Bishop was going to revolutionize the QB position . Lol) and I don't really pay attention to players when I watch college football What are Bucannons strong/weak points in your opinion? Everything I've read is that he's a ferocious hitter, but maybe a bit suspect in coverage?? Would you say his coverage skills would be an upgrade over Whitners? The stiff hips thing scares me. Thanks.

If you are using cbs sports as a tool
Why draft Moncreif that high since he's rated #100

Dude why don't you be true to yourself,YOU DON'T LIKE MONCREIF plain and simple,I think GOD you NOT Baalke

very nice. would like to have addressed the OG position earlier, but very strong draft for the Niners.

I did look at that ranking and thought it definitely did not fit Moncreif after his Combine performance. There are a bunch of receivers who made a splash in Indy so guys like Cooks, Beckham, Matthews, etc are all going to be picked higher than their initial rankings. Just thought the Niners could get him at that spot. It's a crapshoot anyway.

It's not that I don't like him, it's just that he's super over hyped here.
I get Moncrief is many mocksters' man-crush...but if you look at their total bodies of work, I believe Matthews is the better pick. That he ran 4.46 shows he's got enough speed...that he's the all-time leading SEC receiver speaks volumes...that he bench pressed 20 times (vs 13 for Moncrief) shows his strength.

It's a solid, quick, fast, not small, consistent, reliable WR...where is the overhype here? Picking him with one of our 2nd-rounders is not even close to overhype.
