This draft is also deep at CB with the ability to pick up legitimate starters as far down as the 4th round. So getting a high-end WR like Cooks, Beckham or Moncrief in the late first then going CB in the 2nd or 3rd (and another one later) makes a lot of sense too.

I agree. It could also mean we take a totally different position than expected with #30. Perhaps linebacker or center/guard.

It's a smart move for them to do this and I hope they do. It's less popular sure. Fans always want a WR. It's like that for all 32 teams every single year for 25 years running. The want a WR. They are fun and exiting to watch. It makes sense. But it's not always your biggest need.
Well put.

I've thought about this idea, but not sure if it's worth the risk of dropping from say #30 to #40, in theory that could be 10 receivers that you go before you pick. With 12 picks I think they can afford to move up from one of their late 2nd rounders into the early 2nd round.
More importantly, I don't think a lot of those scrub teams in the top 10 (Browns, Jags, Raiders, etc.) would want to give up picks to move up from the early 2nd round back into the late 1st round.

I agree there is a lot of CB depth, not as deep as WR, but perhaps I should have been clearer and stated Safety in my proposal.
This draft is not deep at Safety. There are guys, but not many complete players: A ballhawk but not a great tackler. Good tackler, not great coverage skills. Size but not enough speed. Speed but not the ideal size.

I wouldn't be upset with Joyner/Pryor, Matthews, and Herron
or
Cooks, Moncrief, Loston.
Basically, I want Day 2 to end with two WR and one S. I trust Baalke to sort out priorities among CB, DL, OL. They seem to do well finding value picks at those positions.
I like it.
Day 2:
2 WR's: Mathews, Moncreif or Adams and Bryant, Janis or Richardson
1 Safety: Bucannon, Dixon?
* Leaves us with 1 extra 3rd or 2nd,
Does that mean we move up in the 1st and select:
CB: Justin Gilbert
WR: ?
DE/DT?
Basically we have so many extra picks and the depth is there. It's definitely an Interesting draft.

I just want physical freaks...
so realistically Moncrief ....if we can't get Cooks (only because of his catching ability and toughness, when compared to other similar sized wrs)
or Bryant... sure he won't be agile as these other quick WRs..but we just need a deep threat... if he can quickly get down field..hopefully we can use him as a decoy like we did with Randy.. atleast just enough to open up the middle.
Like I've stated before I'd be fine with Moncrief and Dri Archer (game breaking RB/receiving threat)
and wouldn't mind if we added Bryant as well. (could take Osgood's active roster spot for special teams, and get playing time on offense) Love Osgood, but we need to move on if the opportunity is there.
