Resign --
Boldin - WR, Cox - CB, Wilhoite - ILB, Dawson - K, Osgood - WR
(Whitner and Brown get large contracts via FA; we opt not to resign Eric Wright)
Cut --
Dahl - S, Baldwin - WR, Rogers - CB, Fleming - LB
Trade --
Ian Williams - NT for Packers 2014 7th round draft pick
*TJE has replaced Williams at NT. Plus we have Dial. It's best to trade Williams to a DL needy team. Packers have a ton of FAs at DL like Raji.
LaMichael James for Vinny Curry - DE/LB - Eagles
*Curry has been a 2nd round disappointment. Under Tomsula, I think Curry could blossom. Similar frame to Carradine.
7th round draft pick for Jonathan Martin - OT/OG - Dolphins
*Martin is an average tackle, but I think he could replace Iupati at LG in 2015. At worst, he improves our depth.
Free Agency --
T.J. Ward - S - Browns
*Born in San Fran, college in Oregon, the signing will be a homecoming. Top 3 player at his position. This is a true upgrade, and there's mutual interest.
Craig Stevens - TE - Titans (Cap Casualty)
*A former 3rd round pick that never blossomed as a receiving TE but excels as a blocking TE. Upgrade to Celek. Vet min deal.
Matt Moore - QB - Dolphins (Cap Casualty)
*Dolphins can use save $4M by cutting Moore for other contracts. We snag our backup to Colin Kaepernick. Upgrade to Colt McCoy.
NFL Draft --
R1: Brandin Cooks - WR - Oregon State
*Speed, game breaking threat that our offense badly needs.
R2: Louchiez Purifoy - CB - Florida (via Chiefs)
*A bit raw in technique, Purifoy makes up in physical skills such as speed, height, and build. Tall corner. Replaces Rogers.
R2: Martavis Bryant - WR - Clemson
*Tall receiver that knows how to make the big catches.
R3: E.J. Gaines - CB - Missouri (via Titans)
*Similar to Brown in terms of height and skill, and will be his replacement in 2014.
R3: Tyler Larsen - C - Utah State
*Competes with Kilgore for the starter center position.
R3: Jordan Zumwalt - ILB - UCLA (comp)
*Big hitting linebacker that will provide depth and relief for Bowman and Willis.
R4: Antone Exum - CB/S - Virginia Tech
*Injury drops him to this spot. Slotted behind Ward at Strong Safety.
R5: De'Anthony Thomas - RB/KR/PR - Oregon
*Burst speedy back and receiver with special teams abilities. Replaces James.
R6: Spencer Long - OG - Nebraska
*Possible return for 2014, but most likely a 2015 player. Starting potential.
R7: Keith Price - QB - Washington (via Packers)
*Poor man's Russell Wilson. Competes for a backup spot.
R7: Zack Kerr - NT/DE - Delaware (via Saints)
*Competes with Dial and Curry for the last roster spots along the D-line.
R7: Lorenzo Taliaferro - RB/FB - Coastal Carolina (via Colts)
*Goal line power back in a similar style to Anthony Dixon.
R7: Colton Underwood - DE/LB - Illinois State (via Panthers)
*PS player to transition to outside linebacker

i like, i think ward will command too much money than we can pay though. for the rookie qb i want more of a pocket passer but whos not a statue and can make plays on his feet like smith did. just give me someone with the potential if developed right can challenge kaep and make him work even harder on his game as a passer

Keith Price is a mobile QB. But I don't see the reason to spend an early round pick on a QB if we supplement the position in free agency.

The position the 49ers are in 2014 is that they DO NOT need to draft by need but by Best player available ! if the BPA is at their selection are rated the same you take the need position . Never take a player just for the body to fill that need at a position. The 49ers are a team that puts a lot of energy to develop their players look into the Englishman Okoye maybe he has so progress to step up just like Michael Carter did in the glory days!

I would take Donte Montcrief from Ole Miss instead of the kid from Clemson.

That's a valid substitution to the mock. Montcrief oozes with potential - strong route running skills, catches with his hands and not the body, etc. But he lacked consistency in college. Good value if picked in the late second round though.
For me, Bryant seems like a natural fit in our offense. He'd be dangerous in those intermediate routes, and poses significant mismatches for the opposing defense with his height and catching ability. He has an ability to box out defenders in order to make the secure catch - similar to Anquan Boldin.

Would love ward but don t count on it happening with our tight cap situation. Martaveous Bryant no, montcrief yes. Otherwise really good looking mock.
