Draft a Return Specialist.

Ideally this team needs to add speed everywhere pretty much, speed in the secondary, speed on offense....I wouldn't mind them drafting 2 or 3 players that can not only play their positions, but can also be useful as returners. I'm talking about the possibility of drafting a guy like Odell Beckham at WR, Justin Gilbert at CB and so on. Then in the preseason, throw them all at special teams and see who turns out to be the best fit overall. That way, even if a guy goes down to injury, you have suitable guys ready to take over and contribute but you aren't burning a roster spot for a guy who essentially only contributes as a returner, much in the way Ted Ginn was doing the past few seasons, regardless of what you think of his current performance level.

On a side note, has there been a successful BRANDON drafted in the past? I can only think of Brandon Jacobs, but he's a dbag.

Good point. And I liked Tavon Austin--a lot.
I still think that Chancellor would be a good investment, but the consensus seems to be no.
Let's see if he gets invited to the Senior Bowl and the combine.
There is a chance that he will be available late in the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

Brandon Lloyd. Brandon Mebane has had a solid career. Meriweather has been to a pro bowl or two.

I would not be against this at all. I agree with definitely adding even more speed to this team for sure. You see how Vernon's speed kills defenses and Kaepernick just loves his speed out there.

Our return game is one of our major weaknesses. It needs to be fixed.
I really do not care how it gets fixed, but drafting a return specialist might be the easiest way to solve the problem.
I like the idea of drafting Odell Beckham. He is a good receiver and has both punt return and kickoff return skills.
We would have to take Beckham in the first round, but I would not have a problem with that.
Nevertheless, even if we take Beckham, I would still consider taking Chancellor later in the draft.

Like I said, I don't think this team can afford a roster spot just for a guy to return kicks and punts. You find a functional player who contributes as a WR, a CB, a safety, but is also able to return kicks and punts.

I agree with all of the above. I'm not against getting guys who can excel on special teams, seeing what it's done for our coverage units. But there is no reason to draft a guy who is a pure special teams player when there are receivers, corners, etc available that can return kicks/punts and actually produce at a given position.

Hey guys UNT fan here. I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass and tell you Brelan is a sure fire success in the NFL but he could be worth a 6th or 7th if coaches don't want him to have his choice of teams to sign with as an undrafted free agent. He has produced big time in two SEC games (@UGA @ LSU) and does have legit speed but he is 5'9 and pretty under the radar.

We do need to improve the return game.
After nine games, we are:
25 in kick return average.
29th in punt return average.
Maybe James will do a better job.
