Guard depth

Anthony Davis's extension got me thinking. Staley has a pretty decent deal, AD just extended, I have to imagine they'll extend Iupati. What is the likely hood that they extend Boone? If I was Boone, I'd try to land a OT position as a starter on another team at the end of his current deal.

The Niners current depth chart at OL looks something like:

LT: Staley, LG: Iupati, C: Goodwin, RG: Boone, RT: Davis
LT: Boone , LG: Looney?, C: Kilgore?, RG: Looney, RT: Boone

Paarage stated that the Niners couldn't afford to dump too much money into the defense. I'm wondering if they can afford to extend Davis, Iupati, and Boone?

I think it's pretty obvious that the Niners need to draft a development OT (who will actually play tackle). I have been resistant to targeting an OG/OC in this draft as well. But maybe they really should draft a OT and an OG/OC.

Competition for the OC of the future is not a bad thing, and the runner up could challenge for the RG spot, especially if Boone walks in the future.
Boone is locked up cheap for the next 3 yrs. If we do draft an interior OL pretty early, I think Goodwin might be shown the door.

I like him a lot. He's actually exactly who I was thinking of.

I totally forgot about that. Oops.
I HIGHLY doubt we draft an interior OL. It would have to be incredible value like Warmack falling to the 2nd round or something. We have too many more important needs.

We could spend a late round pick on somebody, but I doubt they'd be an upgrade over Kilgore or Looney and wouldn't make the roster.

So no. No C or OG in this draft.

I wonder if they feel the same way the front office did a few years where they didn't want to spend a lot on the Guard and Center. I think it might be a long shot for them to keep Iupati. It would be nice to lock him up for a deal similar to Davis but I don't see it happening. Same goes for Crabtree. Unless they sign under their market value they will price them selves out of San Francisco.
we need a swing tackle first so Boone can focus on just being a RG.
NOT a long shot to keep Iupati.

Not long ago people in the Zone were saying we'd have to give up Willis or Bowman and we couldn't keep both - WAKE UP CALL - we did keep both and we will keep Iupati.

OL in the 4th and no sooner.

If the Niners do draft an interior lineman, he would be my pick.
