I agree with this 1000%. We better not take Austin or I'll be teed off for a long time. We need DeeLine and CBs!! I would literally use our 1st 3 picks on either Cbs and Delinemen no doubt!!! Then i'd use a late 3rd or a 4th on a nice WR prospect and hope that Jenkins develops. Austin to me is gonna be flop city in the NFL, he'll get pummeled unless he was to play for a team that uses the 99'Lambs Gretaest Show on Turf offense.

So a kid who hasn't missed a game in college will get pummeled in the NFL because he is small ? You do realize he is similar in size to Wes Welker, Desean Jackson and Percy Harvin. Seems to me those guys don't get "pummeled" regularly and that those guys all have produced. What separates Austin from the aforementioned three and why will he flop if those guys have had success ?

Not saying because they were successful that he will be too, but you seem to be overlooking that there is a long list of undersized players who have succeeded in the NFL and didn't play in Mike Martz's offense.

Obviously people forget where the NFL is going to the spread offense more players in space and playmakers of need
1st of all, Welker was a NOBODY NOTHING until he met up with Brady, now that Welker is in Denver with a weak armed P Manning, Welker will be miserable there. and Harvin is and was 195 lbs. a lot heavier then Austins 174, There is NO WAY in HE## I'd draft Austin in the 1st round. He is a slot WR who is gonna FUMBLE a lot in the NFL, he'll going up against NFL Talent and not the Marshall universitys of the world
"According to Profootballtalk.com, "some" people around the league believe West Virginia WR Tavon Austin's over-under in April's draft is pick No. 15.

The Rams pick at No. 16 and the feeling around the league is ostensibly that Austin wouldn't get past their selection. The Saints have the 15th pick. New Orleans seems more likely to focus on defense in the first round, but could be stationed in a bit of a "hotspot" for a team like the pick-rich 49ers to trade into. Pre-draft rumors have San Francisco interested in a move up for Austin."

rotoworld.com

Almost makes me think it can't happen now.
Please, Baalke, Harbaugh Please do not trade up for this short, skinny, small Austin guy. If he falls to 31 then so be it but please dont waste picks to move up for a wasted pick.

He will be taken in the top 10. This was always the case.

-Welker started to come on in year 4....with Joey Harrington as his QB. If he was a nobody he wouldn't have been dealt for a 2nd round pick.

-Harvin is still a small sized player. His durability was a concern coming out of UF.

-Again Austin is not a slot receiver. He is an OP or OW (Offensive Playmaker or Offensive Weapon). He can be moved all over the field and showed a lot toughness at WVU. He went up against talent at WVU as they were in the Big 12 last year after he played 2 years in the Big East. He led WVU with 11 catches for 187 yards against LSU in 2011...an LSU squad that had Patrick Peterson, Morris Claiborne, Tyrann Mathieu and Eric Reid. It's not like he hasn't played top college competition, and he produced against that level of comp.

Welker was a return specialist at Miami and would have been #12 this year with his career numbers in punt returns and about #23 as a kick returner. When he was used properly in NE he demonstrated the ability to get open and catch almost everything thrown his way. No need to knock a player just to make a point. The comment about hanging on to the ball is conjecture. Austin has not been a fumble factory in college.

I'm not in favor of trading up for him unless the 9ers can do it and still get the defensive players they need, but I recognize the value of a great return game and a super threat from WR. He is lightening in a bottle type player. Sort of like Ted Ginn, but also good as a receiver.

687 yards as a third receiver in Miami is nothing to sneeze at. There's a reason why New England gave up a 2nd rounder for him.

It's not like he was Danny Woodhead and they pulled him off the street.

I like Tavon Austin a lot but if the Niners move up in the draft I see us targeting Kenny Vaccaro as he'd fill a huge need in our secondary.

As is stands now our starting WRs will be Crabtree/Boldin with backups as Kyle Williams, Manningham, Jenkins , Lockette and fill in the blank rookie. That is a very serviceable unit!!!!!

Too much work needs to be done with depth all over our defense to spend picks on Austin.

I think we will focus heavily on WR and RB (unless we grab Lattimore this year) in 2014.
Go get him Jed, POUND THE TABLE!

He is going to be a flat-out gamechanger.Hes a burner with vision and wiggle, who can go across the middle and have the body control and hands to bring the ball in. Looks like he can return punts too, and if he can take the NFL hit, whoa! I am really impressed with his change of direction. Hes got a great feel for the game and the confidence to take over the game. He knows the ball belongs in his hands and I think thats why he'll be a better player than DeSean Jackson

I would suggest you watch Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter's highlights too.
Austin can play and if he falls into the 20s in the draft, they should look into trading up to get him. I do not think he will fall that low. The only thing I think of is LMJ and Austin are simalar. With this off season for LMJ to work on the playbook and his receiving. I think he will be a very good player for the 49er and I hope they can use LMJ in much the same way GB uses Randall Cobb.
