I thought he could have been as high as a 3rd... not too big of a deal with a 6th rounder not working out. Guy looked decent just couldn't catch balls in the game.

Anyways, wasn't Baalke in charge of the 2010 draft. He hit with Iupati... logical pick in AD... Mays was Singletary's pick... hit with Bowman plus traded down and got an extra 4th.... hit with Aldon, Culliver, Hunter and Miller this year.. jury is still out there on some

Sing wanted big guys, that I'm sure of. I count last year being his first year "in charge".

So you think Davis and Iupati were all Sing?

Why would they need to impress him with a helicopter when all they gotta do is draft him ?

He gave the impression the team was trying to be secretive and helicoptering the guy in.

Given his history, I assume Harbaugh worked him out in a Richard Nixon mask.

Wouldn't taking him in the first round be a reach ?

yes

So was Aldon Smith at #7

This is a big difference

I'm saying Baalke knows what he's doing.

Ok yes, you are right, he didn't nail every single draft pick. But that's not what were are going for. He's been consistently drafting well. Throw A. Davis, Iupati, and Bowman in there as well. Now he does have some bad eggs (namely Taylor Mays), but given our putrid track record with 2nd round picks, it's not that big a blemish on his overall drafting.

Really, if we can get 2 good players out of this draft, I would consider it a success. There just isn't a lot of room for new draftees. And our 1st pick has the best chance (because of $ and talent) to make an impact this year.

Bruce Irvin + Aldon Smith + Ahmad Brooks + Parys Haralson = Great, young OLB Core! And we'd probably jettison Haralson after the season anyway. You can never have too many passrushers!
Guess we can't complain if we do take him... would be nice that we finally put an emphasis on pass rush which we haven't done in so long.

RoJo was only picked because we had just signed his WR coach from USC
Here is Irvin's draft profile.... My friend and I were talking about this same scenerio. It's already a nightmare to block Justin and Aldon Smith. Why not draft a pass rush specialist and line him up on the opposite side to give opposing OLs fits!!!!!!!!

I was surprised he didn't turn out. Good point though... could have been a John Morton pick. I think GM's let positional coaches have a pick or at least some major input towards the later rounds.
I really hope they trade back the 30th for someone chasing an overhyped receiver. Have 2 2nds & 2 3rds. Package them up to get the 2 guys they want in the 2nd round. Irvin would be a good choice here with perhaps Silatolu.

this.

get it done AUniner!!

call the HQ @ 4949!!

i think the talent in this draft is pretty much even at 25-40, so we need two picks in that range; trading back makes sense.

I think he wanted them and Trent agreed.

Wasn't the story that Sing was the one who pushed to trade up for Davis? Who knows. It sounds like the draft war room during that draft was pretty contentious.
If Baalke says our guy is definitely there at #30, we're gonna be trading up .

No way he releases any information that gets others looking closer at who he's looking at. What he said was a smokescreen
I actually thought the samething when I heard it last night. He would be a monster I have never seen measurables on a player that size before. With numbers like that if he was shorter and 30 bounds lighter he would be the number 1 safety taken lol. Him coming around the corner will be like an OT trying to take down an elite RB in the open field. Clay Mathews measurables were sick but irvins are better and he has longer arms. I would be all for drafting him only have 3 OLBs on the roster. Might seem like a few too many but would be all for trying to make Irvin a future olb and keeping Aldon in his role as a pass rush specialist.
Just finished reading Irvin's life story and how he came to be where he is right now, wow. Dude just needs to keep on the right path and the sky is the limit.
