There was a helicopter involved....

I love this time of year.

Michael Lombardi on Path to the Draft mentioned how Bruce Irvin is moving up the boards. He specifically mentioned one team gave Irvin a special private work out that he "can't nail down" but that "a helicopter was involved" and the team is "apparently in love with him and told him they would pick him in the first round."

49ers? Wasn't Nolan Mr. Helicopter flying Justin Smith around? Do the 49ers have a special helicopter for such occasions? Is it called Niner-One?

I really like Bruce Irvin BTW, and would have no problem with them taking another pass rusher at the end of the first and addressing G and WR later.

Why would they need to impress him with a helicopter when all they gotta do is draft him ?

i really wouldnt mind getting an OLB mainly cause you can never have too many pass rushers but i would much rather full some holes specifically at the RG and WR position

havent seen much of irvin so dont know much about him any info would be great

He gave the impression the team was trying to be secretive and helicoptering the guy in.

Given his history, I assume Harbaugh worked him out in a Richard Nixon mask.

Wouldn't taking him in the first round be a reach ?
May be he flew the teams GM around while explaining to them why he is such a good draft choice in the 1st - Reverse Nolanism

Barrows actually guessed the mystery prospect was Bruce Irvin back when Baalke made the tease.

http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2012/04/baalkes-mystery-prospect-a-look-at-bruce-irvin.html

I don't know if 30 is too high for Irvin. Mayock just mentioned him as a fast riser likely going in the 1st round. Lombardi had him at 20 to the Titans.

I think he's a neat pass rush specialist - I do not know enough to know if he is better than the handful of pass rushers that will be available at the end of round 1. I do know the more I think about it, the more I warm up to a pass rusher OLBer in the first as I think we can meet our requirements for OG and WR in rounds 2 - 4.

Since Irvin was in for a visit already - a second more recent visit would perhaps be tipping the 49ers hand too much. Hence the helicopter. Who knows. I'm just trying to have fun getting ready for tomorrow. I'm probably gonna be excited no matter who they pick.

This all being said, the special on #1 picks last night was stomach-wrenching in the Alex-Aaron portion. McCarthy said he preferred Aaron - don't know if that's revisionist history or not. But Aaron did say that the 49ers basically told him he'd be the pick before the draft.

I hope someone, somewhere is kicking Mike Nolan in the nuts right now.

Call me crazy but I think they like Haralson as a 3rd OLB. We rarely used the 3rd OLB so to me drafting one at 30 is overkill. I know you can never have too many good pass rushers but Aldon and Brooks are capable of playing almost every snap. Maybe we get rid of Haralson. Just seems unlikely.

I'm saying Baalke knows what he's doing.

Whave only seen 1 draft of his so far...need more data before I say he never f**ks up. The RoJo pick was bad last year....still havent seen us take a WR that works out long term in like 8 years.
