We could theoretically get Luck without sucking...

It's very realistic that Carolina winds up with the #1 overall pick again, and since they just took Cam Newton #1 overall, they're obviously not gonna be in the market for Luck and will thus look to trade it. We just have to root hard for their opponents most Sundays (except this Sunday) and then we're in business. Assuming we choose anywhere from the mid-teens to the mid-twenties, I'm thinking that pick, plus our 2nd rounder, and our 2013 1st + 2nd rounders could be enough to do the trick. Thoughts?

Not a chance that would do it. Luck is a once in a generation type of prospect. The Falcons gave that up to move up to 6, when there was no franchise qb on the board. We would need to give up a player like Patrick Willis or Vernon Davis in addition to 2 first round picks. Teams are crazy over franchise qb's and to land the best qb prospect since Peyton Manning, you will pay heavily. To be honest, 2 first round picks are pretty negligible given how we've spent them. I'd give up 2 firsts and VD in a second. We could trade our 2nd in 2012 for a first in 2013, and only really miss a beat in one draft by not having a 1st or 2nd in 2012.

Nah, I think if we threw in our 2014 1st rounder also, that'd HAVE to do the trick. No way they can say no to 3 1st's and 2 2nd's. They would likely look at that as enough ammo to build a great enough supporting cast around Newton to maximize his chances of reaching superstardom. In fact, we might even be able to get away with not giving up our 2013 2nd rounder and just have to part ways with 3 1st's and 1 2nd.
And don't forget- Atlanta traded up from like 27, suppose we were @ 15, that'd make a HUGE difference.

I dont think Carolina will pick in the top 5.
They had a good offseason. Cam Newton will make a difference. Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams will be back. They added Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey. I say 6-10 at worst 8-8 at best.

Yea it all depends on Newton though, if he can't settle in and keeps completing only 40-50% of his passes and getting picked off once or twice a game they'll fall fast. Not to mention none of those 4 players are in no way the poster childs of durability. I bet at any given time this season 2 of them will be hurt. Here are the 5 teams I think most likely to pick number 1 overall and why, no particular order.
Colts: no peyton for "2 or 3 months" means no Peyton at all unless were in the hunt for the playoffs and Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter are not good for more then 6 wins this season. Secondary got worse and their running game will take a hit without manning's ability to read defenses. if colts are worse then 2-4 at the trade deadline don't be surprised if Polian looks to load up on picks or youth and get a head start on the transition away from Peyton. That surgery he had is a "routine" procedure and some 40 players have come back to play but it has also derailed the careers of several players. It also has recovery time of 9-12 months for a regular person so sure given that Manning is an amazing athlete and in way better shape then 90% of the nation maybe he can recover quicker but I'd put it closer to 6 months. If their are any setbacks we might have seen the last of Peyton without getting to say goodbye.
Bengals: Palmer is reportedly working out and could show up out of nowhere to force his hand, besides that Dalton does not look ready to play the 2 toughest defenses 4 times this year. Get ready for Dalton to be next years Jimmy Clausen when they pick Luck and Dalton slides all the way to #3 on the DC.
Redskins: The Shanahan QB carousal is not going to slow down, they wanted Beck to win and he didn't so the second Grossman underperforms he's going to get the hook and then they'll second guess that decision the second Beck can't win games. Tim Hightower, Brian Orakpo and DeAngelo Hall are the only players keeping this team from being predicted to go 0-16.
Vikings: I really like McNabb and Berrian but come on?? You're going to tell me that is the go-to passing combo being developed there? If the vikings are actually committed to Ponder then I see them drafting Alson Jeffery or Justin Blackmon next year but don't rule them out. Nothing like the last second addition of the best QB since Peyton to entice stadium donations.
and of course the Panthers for reasons mentioned above but will say them again:
The Cam Newton to Jeremy Shockey security blanket will not win more then 4 games. Carolina's running game will have to be absolutely prolific for them to not finish dead last this year. their projected #2 wideout is out with a torn ACL, their secondary is completely suspect and will get demolished by their own division for 6 games plus they play the nfc north: the packers, the bears(not great but can pass and will win that game), the lions who if Stafford makes it through 16 games will get to the playoffs.

I'd actually take out Arizona and put Seattle there. They can't be serious if Carroll is trying to get everyone to believe they can make the playoffs with Jackson and Whitehurst at QB. Lofa Tatupu was the only one Gore had to worry about on Seattle's defense, now he has no worries.

True true. You can make a case for both teams. IMO, I think the Cardinals are going to have a rude awakening when they notice that Kolb isn't the answer. It also doesn't help that their top running backs are all injury prone. Their defense is also very old and they lost their top corner.

You also make a good point bout their running game, their defense isn't scary either, same as Seattle even with Patrick Peterson, now if they kept DRC then its a different story. But after thinking about it more, I'd take out Miami and switch them for Seattle, their offense will be much more decent outta the teams mentioned, and Nolan is a pretty good DC, that has more than enough tools to work with.If I had to guess:
Redskins with the top pick
Cincy with the second.
Carolina with the third.
Seattle fourth.
Arizona fifth.
Bills sixth.
Broncos seventh.
Miami eight.
Raiders ninth.
?????? I can't decide.

I'll agree with that. Simple fix: Peterson is in AZ, not Seattle

Sorry I should've put a comma there, but I meant Seattle's defense isn't scary either, mai bad.

We won't get luck, because the redskins will find a way to get him, either that or the colts, when they realize they need to start a small scale rebuilding project. (for life after manning)

The team in the NFC west most likely to get Luck is Seattle.

I'll be content as long as the Dolts, Seagulls, Cowgirls, or Gaiders don't draft Luck.
