With the 1st pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Andrew Luck, Quarterback, Stanford.

So put us in the same position as Carolina is this year? Not saying that Cam Newton can hold Andrew Luck's jockstrap or anything like that......but by drafting Luck, it would put Kaep in the same position as Clausen.....and our organization fighting over who to start......

Sounds like a nice problem to have, 2 potential legitmate NFL starting QBs instead of none. Plus whichever one loses the competition will give us excellent security in the event of injury, and a blue chip trade prospect that would likely draw a number of draft picks in return (think the return the Eagles will get for Kolb). Also, if Kaep ends up backing up Luck he would have some positional flexibility in Wildcat-type packages or even as a wide-out.

Bill Walsh would disagree, he was a notorious hoarder of draft picks.
