Every team has a regrettable decision or more it'd like to undo... Alex Smith

Only difference is most teams know when to cut their loses and move on. When your giving the guy the multiple years to prove himself because you dont want to admit your mistake hurts the franchise even more then the initial pick.

You mean like AZ cutting Leinart, Tennessee getting rid of Vince Young, Green Bay cutting Brian Brohm a second round pick within a year, you mean teams that are not afraid to admit they made a mistake.

Not sure what you are trying to prove with these examples.

But yes, what he is saying is that if Alex Smith was picked 1st by 31 other teams, and panned out the same way...no way in hell would he have gotten 6 years to prove his worth (let alone potentially a 7th)

Exactly, this is a win now or within the next 2-3 years type of league... Especially if you're drafted in the 1st round and definitely if you're drafted number 1 overall.

Look at guys like Sanchez, Flacco, Bradford, Matt Ryan, Josh Freeman.. None of these young QBs took 6 years to develop, and they are now franchise QBs and rising stars in the league. Alex Smith has taken 6 years to be mediocre. Mediocre will not win championships or even get you to the playoffs.

Yeah but its not like it matters unless you've invented a real life hot tub time machine.

lol At Sanchez and then saying mediocre will not get you to the playoffs. He's hardly better than Smith. He threw 17 TDs, 14 INTs, and completed like 55% of his passes.

Sanchez is better than Smith. Sanchez has gotten his team to the AFC championship and beat the Patriots. Alex Smith has yet to take his team to a playoff game and has a hard time beating the Seahawks.

It doesn't take a psychic to see that Alex Smith sucks.

Sanchez isn't even the best player on his own team dude. He has like 3 probowlers around him and he can't even come close to completing 60% of his passes? Give me a break. Bradford, Ryan, etc. ok I will give you those guys. But Sanchez s**ts all over your "mediocre QB can not even get you to the playoffs". I like Sanchez but he's not that good. The guy has Holmes, Keller, Edwards, Cotchery, and LT around him and he has a QB rating of 75. And lets not forget he has a good OLine too. He didn't even play as well as Alex Smith this year dude. I'm not even saying Alex SMith is good or should be brought back, I'm just saying Sanchez is a bad example.

I'm not a big Sanchez fan either, but 2 years in the league and 2 playoff appearances, one of them getting to the AFC championship is way more than Alex Smith has accomplished. Alex has had a decent supporting cast in recent years.. A pro bowl RB and TE, An average offensive line, above average WRs, a solid defense and a good special teams unit. He hasn't done much with what he's got. You plug any of those QBs I mentioned into our offense and we instantly become a better offense and football team.
