Tenessee Titans select Colin Kaepernick QB Nevada

Obviously, Kaepernick is a guy in demand. He is being looked at by a ton of clubs, and for good reason. He is at least as developed at the point as a guy like Vince Young, in my opinion, and he has great size and arm strength. The key for Kaepernick is going to be whether or not he can transition his game to the pros, be able to read defenses, and improve his accuracy on intermediate and deeper throws. He certainly has the arm pop to get it done.

The biggest thing Kaepernick has going for him is his versatility. He is effective on the run, and he can sling it. This is a guy who put up huge numbers at Nevada, and he did it over a consistent amount of time. He is also known as one of the higher level players in the draft in terms of his intangibles. Kaepernick is adopted, and has a great life story to this point.

Another huge plus for Kaepernick–no pun intended–is his great size. He is a tall kid with good muscle build and a very durable frame. He did not miss much time at all at Nevada, and is one of the tougher quarterbacks in the draft.

Kaepernick is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the draft based on raw ability, but he’s going to have an uphill climb if he wants to be successful in the NFL over a long period of time. I have no doubt in my mind that he can do it, but he will need to get in with good coaching.

Some have compared Kaepernick’s rise on draft boards to that of Jay Cutler, the former Vanderbilt star and 11th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft to the Denver Broncos.

Based on the uncertainty of whether or not he can develop mentally, I think I would put Kaepernick as a second round prospect, but he is all over the first round buzz right now, and could go as high as 15 to the Miami Dolphins if they so choose.

This is a guy with size, speed, intangibles, and arm strength.
Dallas picks OT Benjamin Ijalana, Villanova. Ijalana has looked impressive in drills and like USC’s Smith he has the long arms to excel at OT. At 6’4″ 315 he started every game during his Villanova career, a durability that makes him extremely attractive to NFL teams
Washington picks RB Mikel LeShoure, Illinois.

At 6′ 230, LeShoure has the size to be an every down RB in the NFL. He is deceptively quick on his first cut and then a great down hill runner.
The Houston Texans [jimmy49erfan] are now OTC

Houstan Texans select Ras I Dowling CB Virginia

Strengths:
Elite height and body frame for a corner
Can run stride for stride with receivers down field
Shows burst to close
Knack for jumping routes; instinctive
Physical on line of scrimmage; nice hands
Very athletic
Great feet and balance
Takes proper angles in run support
Fluid hips
Comfortable in press coverage
Shows awareness in zone
Mirrors receivers well
Highly competitive
Will take on a block

Weaknesses:
Lapses in concentration
Could improve form tackling
A little too high in backpedal
Must locate ball more precisely; might lack some vision
Occasionally looks sluggish coming out of breaks

Summary: Dowling has the physical traits to be a starting corner in the NFL and I love his competitive attitude. However, he needs better coaching at the next level, and if someone can perfect his technique, he could be a playmaker. Looks like a first-round talent.
