matt49er mock offseason/draft 5.0

Release/Don't re-sign
Alex Smith
Troy Smith
David Carr
Demetric Evans
Moran Norris
Manny Lawson-(we attempt to sign him but demands are too high)
Brian Westbrook

Resign
David Baas-3 year deal
Barry Sims-1 year deal
Tony Wragge-1 year deal
CJ Spillman-1 year deal
Ray McDonald-2 year deal
Travis LaBoy-1 year deal
Takeo Spikes-2 year deal
Aubrayo Franklin-3 year deal
Dashon Goldston-1 year deal (will want to test FA next year when he becomes UFA)

Extend/Re-structure
Frank Gore-new 3 year deal (signed sometime during season after Gore proves he is still a top tier back after injury)
Josh Morgan-new 2-3 year deal
Delaine Walker-new 2-3 year deal
Nate Clements-new 3 year deal (restructured for far less $ that reflects his true market value)

Trades
Parys Haralson to Mia for 5th round pick (Nowin convinces FO to trade for this loser)
Chilo Rachal to Sea for 6th round pick (McClueless at it again!)

FA Signings
Nnamdi Asomugha-CB 6-8 year deal (similar to Clements the last 2 years would be easy to get out of for team if deal is longer than 6 years) we break the bank here and bring in a top level FA.

Marc Bulger QB- 2 year deal, best QB on the market right now might be one of the least talked about options for the 9ers in Bulger. He's healthy now and from everything I hear from Ravens fans (live close to Balt MD) Bulger got good reviews from coaches and players on the Ravens and is ready to start again (healthier and away from the s**t that was the Rams his last cpl season there) our HC will have more info than he needs on Bulger and I think Harbaugh #2 gives captain comeback a full endorsement of Bulger.

Draft
1-Carolina- Gabbert
2-Denver- Dareus
3-Buffalo- Newton
4-Bengals- AJ Green
5-Arizona-V.Miller
6-Browns-Fairley
7- SF49ers-Peterson- coaching staff cannot resist putting together this potential dream combo of CBs. Fangio believes an improvement in pass coverage and a more agressive style will alone lead to improvements in our pass rush to rely on later round picks and the existing combo of Brooks/Laboy at OLB.

Rest of 49ers Picks (left after trades 2,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,6,7,7,7,7) 14 TOTAL PICKS!(including round1)
THEN....
TRADE! w/NE, 49ers rcv pick #28, NE rcvs 2nd, 4th, 6th & 7th round picks.
28-Aldon Smith OLB/DE Missouri-say hello to our new passrusher

Revised:Rest of 49ers Picks after NE trade (left after trades 3,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,7) still 11 TOTAL PICKS!!!!!!!!(including round1)

3-Sam Acho DE/OLB Texas- I know 3 straight defensive picks and 2 OLB's. With Lawson and Haralson gone and Fangios bring it style we stock up on edge rushers like we did w/OL last year.

4-Colin Kaepernick QB Nevada- a QB or 2 should fall past the 3rd round take your pick out of Kaepernick, Dalton, Mallet, maybe even Locker who knows here's where we take a project QB for JH

5-Steve Schilling OG Michigan-competes with Snyder, Wraage for RG spot now and hopefully will be our future at that position.

6a-Jarvis Jenkins DE Clemson- nice 3-4 DE depth behind Smith/Soap

6b-Da'Rel Scott RB Maryland- Westbrook's replacement and possible change of pace back with good speed (4.35 40 yd)

7a-Stanley Havili FB USC-A great weapon to have coming out of the backfield, Stanley Havili had 138 rushing yards (6.6 YPC) and 22 receptions for 298 receiving yards (13.6 average)

7b-Blaine Sumner DT Colorado Mines-heard his name mentioned a few times as a potential nice big body project for a 3-4 team. With Franklin re-signing Sumner gives RJF some competition to be AF's backup and potential future replacement.

7c-Alex Henry K Nebraska- 24-of-28 , converting 7-of-8 from 40-49 and 2-of-5 from 50-plus. Nedney is getting up their in age, Reed will go somewhere that he doesn't have to win the K job so we turn to Henry to provide Nedney will TC competition.

UDFA
JB Shugarts OT OSU- character issues push him out of the draft...just like Alex Boone we take another flyer here

TJ Yates QB UNC- best undrafted QB goes to one of the best QB coaches.

Ryan Whalen WR Stanford- One of Harbaugh's Stanford guys

Robert Hughes FB Notre Dame- Harbaugh now has 2 young FBs to choose from, should be a nice camp battle.

Darian Hagan CB Cal- local product brought in to compete for back of roster spot.

The way I see the offseason playing out is the CBA will not get done b4 the draft (I know I'm a rocket scientist huh?) Harbaugh doesn't believe any QB would be close to ready to start this season and has his doubts about even year 2 (any of these QBs will be 100% ready by opening week of their 2nd season.)

So Baalke and Harbaugh choose to wait until round 4 to take a QB and in their heads it's better to get a veteran or re-sign Smith than turn it over to a rookie they are not all that confident in.

In the end we don't go crazy with FA spending Bulger shouldn't be very expensive and won't command a long term contract (knowing he wouldn't get it anywhere) we go hard after Asomugha looking to make 1 big splash to kick start the JH era. In the end we cover our team needs:

QB- Bulger with Kaepernick in the wings
CB- Asomugha, Peterson
OLB- Aldon Smith, Sam Acho
we add depth to the OL and DL while also adding a more versitile FB.
Lawson was tendered, meaning he's coming back at least for one more year.

no Lawson was tenured just in case the new CBA has him as a RFA by all accounts he should be a UFA once the CBA issues are settled.
I like a lot, but I think you're stretching where the players can be had. Kaepernik is working his way into the late 1st, not 4th.

maybe but I don't think it's far fetched at all to say one of the following will fall far Kaepernik, Dalton, Mallet, I think we take that guy.

They'll fall to the 2nd...not 4th

Congrats on making the most unrealistic mock draft in some time.

I'd say out of your first 5 picks only one guy, maybe two will be there where you have them going - Peterson and Acho.

First of all the hilarity starts with that ridiculous trade with New England. That's not a stupid or desparate franchise. Just because they like to trade down doesn't mean they're going to accept gabage in return. Trading a mid 2nd round pick +4th,6th and 7th rounders is a joke.

Why not have the Pats throw in Tom Brady and Vince Wilfork for a 5th rounder while we're at it?

Kaepernick in the 4th round? Did he fail a drug test I didn't hear about?

I mean I'd love to see a draft like that but I know I won't be seeing something like that unless it's in my dreams.

I'm still stuck on some of these signings. this Nate Clements situation you described is mind boggling. So after breaking the bank for Asomugha, and drafting Peterson you still think he should be resigned and start at the nickel CB. Add to that have him returning punts(over ted ginn) and eventually converting to safety mid season. Taking over as a starter at a position he's never played before.

And what have Morgan or Walker done to receive 3 year contract extensions?

I'm a Michigan fan and no way can I see Schilling coming in and taking over as a starter this year. Chilo has underperformed but I would give him another shot before ditching him for a 6th round pick.

hey thanks dick congrats on being a cock sucker f*got!

you may be right about the NE trade i'm not that big on the draft value chart or whatever the F they call it. 4 picks for 1 to me didn't seem like too bad of a deal for a team with a history of stockpiling picks. but really is it that bad? in your eyes what would need to change maybe swap out the 6th or 7th for another 4th or 5th?

as far as the placement of players in my 1st five picks, you like the Peterson and Acho picks but somehow can't wrap your mind around Smith dropping?? Why not?? Do players not rise while others drop each and every year?

mark my words either Aldon Smith, Akeem Akers, heck maybe even Quinn will fall to the later part of the 1st round. you never know

I'll admit Kaepernick was probably a poor choice to slot as the falling QB of this years class. Probably should have chosen Mallet if you read the post however I'm clearly just throwing a name out there with the thought that JH and TB will not put too much stock in this years s**t pile of a QB class.

oh and the 5th pick just can't see Steve Schilling falling to the 5th? that's too unrealistic for you?

Alot of WTF things happen every year in the draft who's to say 1-2 players won't fall to us? Especially when we're talking about a weak draft class for QBs that has a bunch muddled in the middle no1 knows where they will go. I predict someone will fall to us or be there in the 4th round either way u want to look at it.

I don't mind feedback at all, but don't be a dick just to be a dick.

Dude I'm a Michigan fan myself! I'm of the thought that Chilo Rachal sux more than me at RG and I like Schilling. I really believe he can be a starter in the NFL by year 2 if not sometime in year 1.

Walker is a beast man and would be the starting TE on most teams in the NFL. He's like a poor man's VD, speed, versitility, JH is HUGE on TEs and Walker will be used alot in his offense. He's done very well for a backup TE IMO.

Morgan is someone I really like and think he was a steal for a 6th round pick. He hasn't had the opportunity to do much other than block thus far in his career and it's sad. Given the chance I think he's a solid #2 WR.

Clements doesn't have it at CB anymore and I'm sure at somepoint the 9ers will allow his agent to assess his value on the open market b4 making a decision to re-negotiate with the 9ers or not. I really feel like if he comes back this could be a year of transition for him while he converts to the safety position. He hasn't played safety before but Goldston was s**t last year and Mays has done nothing. If that continues I could see Clements starting at S before the end of 2011.

Do two wrongs make a right ?
CHAMPIONSHIP!

My only concern is Aldon Smith looks an awful lot like Manny Lawson. So I don't think we would have solved the pass rush situation. But with a MAJOR upgrade in the secondary giving the rush another half second, we may be able to manufacture pressure.
