TRADE DOWN.
These players represent BPA at 2 of the 3 biggest areas of need for the Niners (QB being the other).
Dareus or Fairley will undoubtedly be gone and neither are locks to play well in a 3-4.
I'd stay away from Quinn (since he didnt play last year) and Bowers (the Niners have tried to convert several DEs to play OLB to no avail).
AJ Green and Julio Jones, while they could help the pass offense, are not mega needs (and one will be taken before #7).
I would strongly consider Amukamara and actually prefer him to Peterson since he's probably more of a "pure corner" (see doubts about whether Peterson is a better fit at Safety).
At the end of the day, I'd be happy with trading down--say getting a mid-to-late 1st and a 2nd or 3rd--for the #7 pick. But, since teams generally look for a king's ransom in return, this might not happen.

Peterson
Miller
Newton
Fairley
Dareus
AJ Green
Robert Quinn
One of them will be available at 7, and I'll be fine with any of them.

I'd grab Quinn providing he checks out medically.

If we can get a good trade, I'd be happy with trading back. However, I doubt we pass on Quinn. We need a pass rusher badly and Quinn looks like a stud.
In the past, we've drafted good DEs that were average pass rushers in college. Quinn is an excellent pass rusher and he's very smooth (already) standing up. None of the OLBs on our roster were known for their pass rush skills. Compared to Haralson and Lawson, Quinn is on a whole different level.

I would love to get a Miller, Peterson, Quinn or Prince at the 7 pick. if they are not available or if there is a good trade on the table than trading back makes the most sense. we have a lot of needs and the bigs ones we would like to see filled are CB, QB, and a Pass Rusher. after that it's NT, and Maybe more OLine. With our current picks I think it's hard to address our needs. if we go Peterson or Quinn at 7, i think we will not be able to get our Qb at 45. Ponder and Dalton will be gone. If we trade back we could grab some more positions we are needing to fill. I think some sort of trade will happen. Baelke showed that when he wants a particular guy (Anthony Davis), he trades to get him. If the have their Mind set on a particular Qb i think we are going to have to trade to get him.

Peterson and Miller aren't locks to be successful just like Fairley and Dareus aren't locks to play well in a 3-4. However Dareus does have 3-4 experience. But one can say that about EVERY prospect, nobody is a lock or a sure thing.
The 49ers have tried to convert a few DE's into OLB's however they never attempted to with someone who has top 10 potential. Look at the cast that we have attempted and compare those guys to Bowers or Quinn....
If either Newton or Gabbert is there either could be the pick as well as it is our greatest need.

So pretty much you don't have enough youtube clips of Quinn to make you excited about him?
As for the other thing most top 3-4 OLBs are converted DEs. Tho I'm not a big fan of Bowers and think he's more suited as a 4-3 DE.
The only reason Quinn would even fall to us is because he didn't play last season. He would be a top 3 pick if he played.

If we could trade back and get Jordan/Kerrigan and Ponder, it would be a great trade.

Dareus, Fairley or Amukamara would have to be the picks. It would be hard to choose from Dareus and Fairley if both were on the board, not likely though. Julio Jones would also be tempting, a lot of people would be mad if selected, but he would definitely workout for us in the long run.

Let the board fall to us. A really good player will be available: Quinn, Gabbert, Amukamara, Dareus, Fairley, or Newton. Someone will be there.
I wouldn't be surprised however to see Baalke/Harbaugh move up the board to get Gabbert (number 3 overall maybe).

That's a lot to give up from 7 to 3. Players would have to be involved to maybe water down the deal and not give up half of your draft.

Do you think the fan-base will throw a fit taking a 5-technique DE at #7?
What about Gabbert?
