I've been following this dude for years and he has some consistency when it comes to his mock drafts but anyway, here's his first of the year.

Al Fronczak's
2011 NFL Mock Draft

This is my first mock for the 2011 draft, and it includes two potential trades involving teams that will be interested in moving from their current position in the first round. The trades reflect how NFL teams are thinking about maneuvering on draft day, to put themselves in position to land the player they covet. Teams will also be forced to reach for a player to fill a need because of the uncertainty of the current free-agency situation.

(03/15)
Version 1.0

1. Carolina Panthers - QB Blaine Gabbert (Missouri)...The Panthers finished last in passing and in total offense last season, and they don't own a second round pick, so they will have a hard time passing up a QB here, since this draft has no Mario Williams in it to fill their DE need...Gabbert has all the intangibles to become a potential franchise-type quarterback in time.

2. Denver Broncos - DT Marcell Dareus (Alabama)...The Broncos are switching back to a 4-3 scheme, and need a player like Dareus to fill a need at DT...*Note - This could be a hot trade spot for a team that wants to jump ahead of the Bills to land a quarterback.

3. Buffalo Bills - QB Cam Newton (Auburn)...QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career year last season, but there's no guarantee that he will ever play that well again...The Bills need to put fans back into the seats, and finding a potential franchise QB in this draft would help...Newton is a project, but has rare ability and the arm strength to cut through the winds in Buffalo...With Fitzpatrick at the helm, the Bills have the luxury of bringing him along slowly, while learning the ropes during the 2011 season... Bills GM Buddy Nix and Scouting Director Tom Modrak flew to Alabama to view Newton's pro day workout, and took him to dinner on the previous evening...Nix has plenty of solid contacts in the south, and has done his homework on Newton.

4. Cincinnati Bengals - CB Patrick Peterson (LSU)...The top two QB's are off the board and WR A.J. Green is tempting, but the Bengals go with the best player on their board and take Peterson here.

5. Arizona Cardinals - LB Von Miller (Texas A&M)...The Cardinals fill one of their biggest needs at OLB by taking Miller...one of the top two QB's would trump Miller here if he were still available.

6. Cleveland Browns - DT Nick Fairley (Auburn)...The Browns are switching back to a 4-3 base defense, and are in desperate need for DT's that can fit their scheme.

7. San Francisco 49ers - OLB Robert Quinn (North Carolina)...The Niners have a new DC in Vic Fangio and Quinn will be a perfect fit to rush off the edge in his scheme...The Niners also have a huge need at QB.

8. Tennessee Titans - WR A.J. Green (Georgia)...The Titans have numerous needs on both sides of the ball including the QB position...Green can start from day one opposite of Kenny Britt and give the Titans another playmaker for their offense.

9. Dallas Cowboys - OT Tyron Smith (USC)...A CB is tempting, but it's been over twenty years since Jerry Jones has taken an OT in the first round...that streak ends this year as the Cowboys fills a huge need on their line which will help keep Tony Romo upright and make the Cowboys offense more productive overall.

10. Washington Redskins - DE Da'Quan Bowers (Clemson)...The Redskins are yet another team looking to draft a QB...Bowers is a much better fit as DE in a 4-3 scheme, so the possibility of a trade exists here if this scenario plays out...A NT like Phil Taylor will be considered... *Note - Don't be surprised if the team makes an attempt to move up into the top three picks to land either Gabbert or Newton.

11. Houston Texans - CB Prince Amukamara (Nebraska)...Amukamara can step in and start from day one and play opposite of Kareem Jackson...A NT like Phil Taylor will also be considered since the Texans are switching over to a 3-4 scheme...Amukamara is the pick for now.

12. San Diego Chargers (*Trade with Minnesota) - DE J.J. Watt (Wisconsin)...The Chargers send the Vikings their first of two second-round picks in the 2011 draft (pick No. 50) for the right to move up and fill the teams biggest need...Chargers' GM A.J. Smith was sold on Watt after attending the Wisconsin Pro Day.

13. Detroit Lions - OT Nate Solder (Colorado)...Jeff Backus has exceeded expectations on the left side over the last few years, but the team could use a top OT to keep Matthew Stafford upright and healthy...with both Backus and Solder on the roster, the Lions are now set at both OT positions.

14. St. Louis Rams - WR Julio Jones (Alabama)...The Rams are elated that Jones is still on the board and waste little time in getting the card into the commissioner.

15. Miami Dolphins - QB Jake Locker (Washington)...There were signs that the team believed they may have made a mistake in taking Chad Henne when Bill Parcells said before last season that he was disappointed in him...Locker has been working on his footwork and delivery since the end of the college season which may have lead to his accuracy problems throwing from within the pocket..a HB will be taken in the second round.

16. Jacksonville Jaguars - DE Cameron Jordan (California)...The Jaguars have several needs, but getting more pressure on the opposing QB is a must for the Jaguars to be able to take the next step...Jordan will be a welcome addition, and join former Cal teammate Tyson Alualu on their line.

17. New England Patriots (from Oakland) - DE Muhammad Wilkerson (Temple)...The Patriots have two big needs (DE and OLB) on the defensive side of the ball that they plan on addressing in this draft...The Pats have finally found a replacement for Richard Seymour on their line in Wilkerson, a player with a huge upside.

18. New England Patriots (*Trade from Minnesota thru San Diego) - OLB Ryan Kerrigan (Purdue)
The Patriots send the Vikings their first of two third-round picks (Pick No. 74 - the pick they acquired from Minnesota in the Randy Moss trade) to move up and take Kerrigan to fill their other huge need on the defensive side...*Note - Kerrigan gets the nod over Aldon Smith, because he had better numbers in the shuttles and proved he was more fluid in the drills at the combine...Plus - Aldon Smith's agent is Tom Condon.

19. New York Giants - DT Corey Liuget (Illinois)...The Giants would like to add another OLB to the mix, but none are worthy of this pick...the DT position will need help if Barry Cofield isn't re-signed and GM Jerry Reese has a history of addressing his defensive line early in the draft.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DE Aldon Smith (Missouri)...The Bucs are elated that Smith is still on the board since finding a DE that can rush the passer is their biggest need.

21. Kansas City Chiefs - NT Phil Taylor (Baylor)...Veteran DT Ron Edwards has done an admirable job at the NT position, but he's getting up there in age...Taylor can step in from day one and fill a huge need in the middle of the Chiefs line.

22. Indianapolis Colts - OT Anthony Castonzo (Boston College)...Finding a LT in this draft is the Colts number one priority...Castonzo has the athleticism to play LT at the next level.

23. Philadelphia Eagles - OT Derrek Sherrod (Mississippi State)...The Eagles will be looking to find a RT in this draft since Winston Justice has underachieved and is the teams player rep, while backup King Dunlap had a run in with the law just recently...Sherrod can start from day one and has the ability to left tackle.

24. New Orleans Saints - DE/OLB Brooks Reed (Arizona)...The Saints go with the top player on their board and feel that Reed can not only fill in at DE, but can be used as an OLB in Gregg Williams blitz schemes.

25. Seattle Seahawks - QB Ryan Mallett (Arkansas)...The Seahawks will have a huge hole to fill at QB if they aren't able to come to terms with Matt Hasselback which appears unlikely at this time...Seahawks GM John Schneider flew across the country to attend the Arkansas Pro Day to view Mallett's workout.

26. Baltimore Ravens - OC/OG Mike Pouncey...The Ravens would love to find a LT that slipped through the cracks, but since that didn't happen, they snap up Pouncey, who is versatile enough to play Guard or Center...Matt Birk is getting up their in age and is the Ravens' player representative.

27. Atlanta Falcons - DE Adrian Clayborn (Iowa)...The Falcons would love find a starting CB in this draft but won't take a chance on Jimmy Smith here...DE John Abraham is getting up there in age.

28. Minnesota Vikings (*Trade from New England) - QB Christian Ponder (Florida State)...The Vikings have moved down twice in the draft and have added two picks (Picks No. 50 and No. 74) in the top 75 for their moves to fill other needs....The Vikings are targeting Christian Ponder, who they feel is a perfect fit to fill a huge need at QB and run their west coast offense.

29. Chicago Bears - DT Marvin Austin (North Carolina)...The Bears have done their homework on OT's during the pre-draft scouting process and could make an attempt to move up for one of the LT's...O-Line coach Mike Tice worked out Gabe Carimi at his pro day, but he doesn't have the athleticism to play LT... Austin has the ability to start from day one and fill a huge hole with the departure of Tommie Harris.

30. New York Jets - DE Cameron Heyward (Ohio State)...The Jets have two big needs (DE and OLB) to fill on the defensive side of the ball and might make an attempt to move up for a pass-rushing OLB like Ryan Kerrigan, Aldon Smith or Brooks Reed...If they stay put here, Heyward would be the pick, since he would fill their need for a five-technique DE in their 3-4 defensive scheme.

31. Pittsburgh Steelers - OG Danny Watkins (Baylor)...The Steelers fill one of their biggest needs, by finding a plug and play player in Watkins, who will help the Steelers running game, protection scheme, and become a starter for the team from day one...finding another starting CB is also a high priority.

32. Green Bay Packers - OT James Carpenter (Alabama)...The first real surprise of the draft comes at the last pick of the first round, as GM Ted Thompson takes a prospect that he feels has the ability to play LT and fill a huge need for the team by keeping QB Aaron Rodgers upright and healthy.

Top prospects that have fallen into the second round of the draft - HB Mark Ingram (Alabama),
OT Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin), CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado).[/u]

Top prospects that have fallen into the second round of the draft - HB Mark Ingram (Alabama),
OT Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin), CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado).

dude these things are hard as hell. i never try and predict past the top 10 or 15 so i appreciate the work you put into this. no way Jimmy Smith or Mark Ingram fall to the 2nd round. Say what you want about Ingram but he is absolutely the best RB in this draft and someone will take him. Jimmy Smith is far too good a CB to fall this far. If he does I hope the 9ers move up and get him.
I think many people don't realize how highly rated Muhammad Wilkerson and Corey Liuget are. These players are reportedly both rated by scouts as top 20 picks, with Liuget seen as a top 15 talent. I can't remember where I read it, but I believe it was a New England Patriots scout touting Liuget.

Do not be surprised if they come off the board that early in April. I don't think the Giants will go after a DT though.. they are absolutely stacked with talent there. Cofield, Canty, Bernard, and last year's high pick Linval Joseph.

But DO be surprised if Marvin Austin comes off in the 1st -- I cannot see him going that high. 2nd round seems more feasible. The 1st is a tad high.

I will be so happy if the 49ers draft Robert Quinn!

You are right about both DT's, in Liuget and Wilkerson. In particular, Wilkerson's length is a nice fit for many of those 3-4 teams who like a tall, athletic, long DE.

The wide range of views on a player like James Carpenter is very intriguing to me. In this draft, he is a late first rounder. I've got him pegged as a second rounder, but it does appear that he grades really well with a number of teams. I believe a lot of teams were impressed by his Senior Bowl week practices and play at LT. I am not so sold on the kid.

As for Austin, I agree that he is headed to the second round. A ton of talent, but is limited to a 4-3 scheme and those off the field issues are an anchor against his draft grade.
Loved the Vikings draft. Traded down twice and got Christian Ponder late in the first.
Yeah no way Ingram makes it out of the first. I can honestly see Jerry Jones taking a long look at him at #9 . The cowboys desperately need a true #1 back and there are more than a few similarities to Emmit. Yeah Im pretty sure Jones will draft Ingram at #9, just see it playing out this way.
I'd prefer to trade down in that situation and get jordan or prince. I'm not a fan of quinn, I just like other prospects a lot more. But I hope carolina and buffalo both take qbs

A few months ago, it appeared that Ingram had little chance to make it out of the first round. However, after posting a sluggish forty time at the combine after losing weight, and due to the very few teams who have a pressing need for RB in the back half of the first round, it is not so impossible anymore.

While Ingram was a terrific college RB, he doesn't have much of a burst in the second level, and I think that limits his ability to be considered a star back in the NFL. I think he's going to be a starter, but in a rotational system that gives him about 15 carries a game. I don't see a Frank Gore or Adrian Peterson in him.

Carpenter is a guy who I think some were blindsided by his skyrocketing stock. I mean, wow has this fellow made himself some money during the offseason. Sure, most of us knew he was a pretty good player, but I never expected any first round hype/talk.

Once thought of as a 3rd-4th rounder, the boards are having to be shuffled quite a bit as of late with guys like Carpenter, Wilkerson, and Danny Watkins on the rise.

If Miller and Peterson is gone and Dareus Bowers Fairley are also off the boards. Trade back. Pick up the extra pick to move up and get Ponder after taking Kerrigan. Then make a splash to get NA from Oakland in Free agency once a new contract gets done.

3. Buffalo Bills - QB Cam Newton (Auburn)...QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career year last season, but there's no guarantee that he will ever play that well again...Newton is a project, but has rare ability and the arm strength to cut through the winds in Buffalo...With Fitzpatrick at the helm, the Bills have the luxury of bringing him along slowly, while learning the ropes during the 2011 season... Bills GM Buddy Nix and Scouting Director Tom Modrak flew to Alabama to view Newton's pro day workout, and took him to dinner on the previous evening...Nix has plenty of solid contacts in the south, and has done his homework on Newton...The Bills need to put fans back into the seats, and finding a potential franchise QB in this draft would help.

6. Cleveland Browns - DT Nick Fairley (Auburn)...The Browns are switching back to a 4-3 base defense, and are in desperate need for DT's that can fit their new scheme...Fairley is the pick.

7. San Francisco 49ers - CB Patrick Peterson (LSU)...The Niners have a new DC in Vic Fangio and would like to find an edge-rusher to put some heat on the QB and add a CB...Peterson has fallen into their lap.

8. Tennessee Titans - WR A.J. Green (Georgia)...The Titans have numerous needs on both sides of the ball including the QB position...Green can start from day one opposite of Kenny Britt and give the Titans another playmaker for their offense.

9. Dallas Cowboys - OT Tyron Smith (USC)...A CB is tempting, but it's been over twenty years since Jerry Jones has taken an OT in the first round...that streak ends this year as the Cowboys fills a huge need on their line, which will help keep Tony Romo upright and make the Cowboys offense more productive overall.

10. Washington Redskins - NT Phil Taylor (Baylor)...The Redskins are yet another team looking to draft a QB, and might consider an attempt to move up for either Gabbert or Newton.....A NT like Phil Taylor will fill a huge need for the Redskins defense at the NT position.

12. Philadelphia Eagles (*Trade with Minnesota) - DE Aldon Smith (Missouri)...The Vikings acquire QB Kevin Kolb from the Eagles for this pick to fill a huge need at the QB position...The Eagles use the pick to select Smith, who will help the Eagles put some much needed heat on the quarterback.

13. Detroit Lions - OT Anthony Castonzo (Boston College)...Jeff Backus has exceeded expectations on the left side over the last few years, but the team could use a top OT to keep Matthew Stafford upright and healthy...with both Backus and Castonzo on the roster, the Lions are now set at both OT positions.

14. St. Louis Rams - WR Julio Jones (Alabama)...The Rams are elated that Jones is still on the board and waste little time in getting the card into the commissioner.

15. Miami Dolphins - QB Jake Locker (Washington)...There were signs that the team believed they may have made a mistake in taking Chad Henne when Bill Parcells said before last season that he was disappointed in him...Note - The Dolphins second round pick went to Denver for Brandon Marshall, so an attempt to move down and acquire picks is likely...A HB like Ryan Williams is on the teams radar screen.

16. Jacksonville Jaguars - DE Robert Quinn (North Carolina)...The Jaguars have several needs, but getting more pressure on the opposing QB is a must for the Jaguars to be able to take the next step.

17. New England Patriots (from Oakland) - DE Cameron Jordan (California)...The Patriots have two big needs (DE and OLB) that they plan on addressing in this draft...The Pats have finally found a replacement for Richard Seymour on their line in Jordan.

18. San Diego Chargers - DE J.J. Watt (Wisconsin)...Finding a five-technique DE for their 3-4 scheme is top priority...GM A. J. Smith was in attendance at the Wisconsin Pro Day to view Watt's workout.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DE Ryan Kerrigan (Purdue)...The Bucs are elated that Kerrigan is still on the board since finding a DE that can rush the passer is their biggest need.

21. Kansas City Chiefs - OT Derek Sherrod (Mississippi State)...The Chiefs are considering moving LT Brandon Albert over to either RT or inside so finding a LT is a priority...Sherrod has the ability to play LT... Veteran DT Ron Edwards has done an admirable job at the NT position, but he's getting up there in age, so finding a NT is another priority.

22. Indianapolis Colts - OT Nate Solder (Colorado)...Finding a LT in this draft is the Colts number one priority...Solder has the athleticism to play LT at the next level, but needs to work on his technique.

23. Philadelphia Eagles - CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado)...The Eagles selected a DE with the pick they acquired from the Vikings for Kevin Kolb, and add much needed help for their secondary here.

24. New Orleans Saints - DE/DT Muhammed Wilkerson (Temple)...The Saints go with the top player on their board and feel that Wilkerson will thrive in DC Gregg Williams scheme.

27. Atlanta Falcons - DE Justin Houston (Georgia)...The Falcons would love to find a starting CB in this draft, but DE John Abraham is getting up there in age, and adding more pressure is a need.

28. New England Patriots - OLB Brooks Reed (Arizona)...The Patriots filled their need at DE with their first pick and take Reed here to help their pass rush.

32. Green Bay Packers - OT James Brewer (Indiana)...The first real surprise of the draft comes at the last pick of the first round, as GM Ted Thompson takes a prospect that he feels has the ability to play LT and fill a huge need for the team by keeping QB Aaron Rodgers upright and healthy.

Top prospects that have fallen into the second round of the draft - HB Mark Ingram (Alabama),
OT Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin).

I like the 2nd one better, but the 1st one isn't too bad, either.
Id start breaking stuff if we passed Green for Quinn. Green is a player like Peterson that you dont pass up at 7.
