Much like this thread. While it's a good point, it's OTB.

Ahhhh, no search function on the mobile version of Webzone. But yes, 2nd round QB's are a big ole bag of fail.
Whats sad is I think Brohm maybe the best of the bench and he is a backup. I`d like to trade for him since he has sat behind Rogers and knows the WCO. He`d be a good fit for us IMO.
It's also important to remember that Kolb and Brees (the only two 2nd round QBs that hav amounted to anything) were both picked pretty early in the second round and were both the 3rd (approx) QB taken in their draft.

Generally speaking, if you want a starter at QB, you have to take one of the first 3 QBs in the draft.

Kolb has not done anything except thrown 11 TD's, 14 INT's, lose 5 fumbles and a hold a rating of about 73.

Just saying.

But he's only started a handful of games.. Plus he's in one of the toughest divisions in football..

Yah, and surrounded by talent. I'm not saying he is a scrub or anything but he has never done anything in the NFL.

Well, however good he is or isn't, he's still the best guy on either list. And the only 2nd round QB currently playing, other than Brees, that is at all worth talking about as a starter.

So if he's not good enough, then I suggest people think real hard about whether or not they want to try to get a 'value QB' after the first round in this draft.

Kolb is pretty close to the best case scenario when drafting a QB after the first round.

Yeah, but drafting a QB in the first round who doesn't belong there doesn't making him any more of a "first round QB".

It just goes to show why there are rarely more than 2, maybe 3 QBs taken in the first round, and half of that in the second. If teams aren't sold, they pass. And they are usually right to do so. Far more don't pan out than do.

It's why if we don't think anyone is worth it in the first, we are better off waiting until the 3rd or later and going BPA early on. Better to get a great player at another position than a QB not likely to cut it.

That way if you get lucky and get a Montana or even a Shaub in the 3rd (or later), greater. But if they don't work out, you aren't hampered by contract or expectations from upgrading at QB in other ways that year or in following years.
