Say in no particular order the first 6 picks (all teams keep their own pick) are fairley, bowers, dareus, miller, quinn, and either blaine or cam (lets just say cam was picked)
We are sitting at 7 with AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara, and Blaine Gabbert all available. Who do we take.
Automatically I vote out Gabbert but he is there for the purpose we can assume either Wash or Tenn will pick him.
I vote out Prince because the pick would be Peterson if we went CB
Now with the CBA and all the talks of the love interest with Harbaugh and Smith lets just figure Smith is brought back as the starter for atleast 1 year.
Green automatically helps Smith out, he is potentially the best player in the draft but not necessarily a position of need. How do you pass up on Randy Moss/Calvin Johnson tho
Do we take Peterson who wont help out Smith (unless you figure good defense helps an offense) but also possibly the best player in the draft, and a major position of need
Or do we trade back no later than 10 get an extra 2nd round pick and take whoever lands to us....most instances say it wont be Gabbert because again WASH or TENN will take him....but then again there is a slight chance????
What is the vote

If Green was available, I would not pass up on him for any other player in the draft except Bowers and Peterson, they are too special of players at our positional needs.

In that case scenario, Green would be the choice. Any chance at an impact player available in the draft, like this kid, I would just have to. That would set up our Wide Outs as: Green, Crabs, Morgan, ?BPA. This would be a great set of receivers for (the obviously) returning of Alex and the coaching style of 'Hardball' for the next ten years. The only missing piece to that 'wishful' offense, is another Power-Back like Blount, who was almost a Niner and ran all over us last season.

I'll grab Peterson. I disagree he wouldn't help Smith. He'll take pressure off Smith by keeping opponents score down

Just a fans' opinion. For me it would be hard to pass on Peterson, or Price...but, could not resist an offensive talent like Green. Yes, we are missing some pieces on our 'D', but more on the 'O' as well. imho, Our Beloved Team is missing more on the O-Side than some might think.

Assuming Peterson doesn't have "stiff" hips I would probably lean toward him because our receiving corp is too full right now. If we took Green we would have Crabs, Green, Morgan, Williams, Ginn, Ziegler(all the people who made the roster this year) plus everyone else? Ginn's touches wouldn't really be affected by this but Morgan would flip a b**** with his numbers falling off. We would have to cut or trade Morgan to make the A.J. Green idea work, no one would want to listen to him whine all year long.
(edit: I can't stand Morgan and think we need to move on, I saw so many plays this year that he gave on and used his alligator arms that I wanted to shoot myself. Sure guys we landed FC's with on the practice squad could fill out the roster if we cut bait with Ziegler and Morgan but I would much rather have A.J. Green opposite Crabs, Williams in the slot, and VD out there too. It is a very intriguing concept of landing Green, but I just don't see Holmgren being that dumb and depriving McCoy of such a playmaker. But one can only hope, the idea of having to pick between Green and Amukamara boggles my mind a bit.)
However based on our scheme and the little I know about what Fangio plans to do, Amukamara would probably be a better fit and possibly a better player in the end. Ultimately the best thing for a team with a pass defense ranked in the mid 20's our biggest need is a CB and we would be fairly stupid to take Green unless we could work some magic and land Jimmy Smith, Aaron Williams or Brandon Burton. I don't want to become the Texans 2.0 with a bad ass offense and horrendous defense that causes us to lose games with final scores like 35-45.
The only way I will be happy with an offensive pick at 7 is if we follow it up with a CB and OLB in rounds 2 and 3 respectively.

Trade w/ Vikings for their first round, 12th, and scond round, 44. With the 12th pick 49ers tak Jimmy Smith - CB Colorado. With #44 Stephen Paea - DT Oregon Stae, with #45 - Colin Kapernick - QB Nevada Las Vegas
OR
Trade w/ Eagles. Our 7th for Kolb and their first round pick.

your vikings trade looks cute on the surface, but minny would really have to love a guy to trade up to get him, we can throw trade possibilities all day long that look good for the niners, but it takes 2 to tango

It has to be green with that group on the board. He would be the bpa and be able to start day one and improve our offense. He would easily make any qb we have better.

Best player on the draft is easily Green or Bowers. Peterson is a close #3.

Peterson is the pick. Unless someone like the Patriots comes calling with their two first round picks to get Green as their replacement for Randy Moss, Peterson is the best combo of talent and pick for need.

Peterson easily. Because people may not realize this but down the road four years we will most likely lose crabtree or green and both will command a high salary. Most teams that have two good to great wrs cant keep both for that long.
And with the west coast system we could find a good wr a lot easier than a great cb.
Based on that alone....go with the best cb
