Will Baalke leap frog Arizona this year?

Will Baalke leap frog Arizona this year?

I am of the firm belief that Baalke may have his sights on Cinncy's pick to grab his #1 on his board if still available. The reason may be because AZ is eyeing the same guy. Who that guy is really is anyone's guess. However, I believe it will come down to these three players:

Von Miller
Patrick Peterson
Cameron Newton

I just don't see Fairley, Bowers and Green in the mix although Green and Crabs would be an extraordinary #1 and #2 and he's a top six for sure. Still, I don't see him in our plans given our WR corp. I believe after film, both Baalke and Harbaugh will be content with Crabs as #1. I don't see both Fairley and Bowers being in a 3-4 scheme, just don't so I don't think they would be on their boards per say.

Instead, I see Peterson and Miller being top five picks that Baalke may want for this team and either one would fit very nicely. I want a pass rusher so I want Miller over Peterson because I believe we can find a corner later that fits our CB needs. I just can't find another pass rushing OLB with his skills and elite speed. Now Quinn could be that Tweener DE/OLB, but I feel he would take some time to acclimate to the position where Miller could start day one, same with Peterson. However, Peterson would provide additional value as a return specialist.

I would love either one on this team!

The unlikely of choices ends this list, Mr. Cam Newton. He's the top 10 question mark. If he truly proves that he's worthy of top five consideration through the drills, film review and interviews, he will be top four for sure. Given that potential franchise QBs trumps all other potential franchise positions like OLB and CB, I see Cam being that guy. Then he could be the choice for Baalke and Harbaugh especially if they get their FA QB in A. Smith. Newton could learn for a year or two while the FA Vet handles the transition.

Bottom line is that those three players will rise to become top five players. Now, will Baalke jump over AZ to land any one of those three? I say yes given just what he did last year. I can see him giving up a 2012 third rounder and this year's fourth to land one of them.

I expect that Baalke will do what it takes to land his true #1 prospect on his board if he drops out of Buffalo's laps.

Calling it.
That's an interesting possibility, but I voted NO. I hope Baalke lets the first 6 picks play out and take either Von Miller or Peterson (whomever is left, both won't be there) with the 7th pick since I expect Newton to be gone, too. BTW, brilliant move for CN to do the media day, got a lot of hype, but huge bust potential, too. In any case, I'd be really happy if we landed either VM or Peterson.
Sounds good but how do we not know Cincy is eyeing the same guy instead of Arizona? So many variables involved it's just hard to pin down. I think last year he jumped the gun by moving up for Davis. I don't think it's something that will be repeated this year. I think all 3 guys will have a monster buzz after the combine. I like all 3 of them and think they ear all gonna be good. So if they did do i wouldn't be upset I just don't see it.
So that is why Tomsula won that last game ... so the Niners would be in position to draft a stud defensive lineman. Selfish b*****d!!!
no newton

If (and that's a big IF) we would consider drafting a WR this year, I'd really rather draft Julio Jones and his pysical ways than AJ Green..
Mike Sando from ESPN with his "Spotlight" on Miller (AZ) and Peterson (SF)
I think we only trade up for Cam Newton.
Cam Newton!? I know his stock is rising but top 5 rising, you know not all GM's listen to Kiper's and Mcshay's mock draft.

That's not my premise. The premise is that he has elite tools, elite. Now, it where GMs place those tools and at what maturity. Again, I said IF he proves that he's their kind of franchise QB, he will be taken top five because of the uncertainty of the CBA coupled with the overvaluation of QBs AND Cam's elite tools like Big Ben when he came out.

Not saying I agree. Just sayin' he will project top five. Buffalo truly looks like the place where he can learn while a Vet takes the reigns while he learns.

I have seen QBs rise and fall since I really paid attention from 2004 with the Rivers Manning and Big Ben drafts. I see Newton rising like Sanchez and he's has more tools to work with. QBs are premium and Newton is no different.

Just sayin...

Honestly I don't think so and I don't want to lose any picks but I kind of hope we do. We can get a pass rusher at the 7th pick no matter what, whether it's Quinn or Miller or Aldon Smith(could be a combine monster and rise up quite a bit). But I really kind of want Miller on this team. What if he turns out to be the next Lawrence Taylor or something? Dude has already drawn comparisons to Derrick Thomas. If he turns out that good and you pair him with Willis, game over.

You see I truly want a pass rusher regardless and that means Miller and Quinn. I believe that Miller could go to AZ and Quinn to Cleveland who needs a 4-3 end rather than pairing Peterson with Haden although that would be an incredible tandem. I personally have a jones for Miller and want us to leap frog AZ to get him.

Yet, I see an opportunity to trade down just a few and land a second while being able to land a starting CB or OLB in Jimmy Smith or Aldon Smith. This way we are assured of addressing our top three needs in the first two rounds. QB, CB and OLB MUST be at the top of the list, no matter how we get it this year.

To me, Miller is worth it. His "IT" is so full of win as a pass rusher. The "sand in the seat" may be his undoing where Quinn would jump over him. Truly, that's what I am hoping for. And, in that instance, we should stay at #7 without sacrificing two players, huh?

Well, it's a consideration to say the least.
I think it would take at least our 2011 3rd and 4th rounders to jump ahead of Arizona . . . so I hope that's a no.
Maybe he will. But for who?
