Great year to trade down

Due to the number of stars in the top 7-9 picks teams will be willing, and this year's draft has incredible depth in all rounds. Guys like Titus Young, Ahamad Black, Cameron Jordan, Ryan Kerrigan, Brook Reed, etc etc etc. The list of great players from the mid first to ~4th is incredible this year. Unless we identify a QB that we want at 7 (or through a trade-up) or believe that we can land Peterson or Darius, I think trading down this year makes a ton of sense.

I agree.. A team like New England has (2) 1st. round picks. If they were to package those with a player (Brace, Pryor, Merriwether, etc.?), I/we'd have to take a look. (Remember back in 2005, when the Vikes offered their 1st. (7th. overall) and RT Bryant Mc. Kinney, and 2 other players forthe 1st. overall. We said NO and took Alex Smith-while Aaron Radgers was still there to be picked at #7)

I read several times that nobody wanted to trade for the 1st overall in 2005. We couldn't get rid of it.

You're right, we couldn't get rid of it. Hopefully this is the year we finally get rid of it...the 2005 1st pick that is...

Yeah I'd love to see us trade down this year. We could really use a guy like Cam Jordan or Kerrigan.

I wouldn't mind trading down this year for a later 1st rounder and maybe an extra 2nd and possibly some other pick. But to do this #7 has to be highly coveted. Somebody has to want to trade into that pick too. And suppose nobody does want to. Then what? You just have to pick at #7. The 49ers need to be prepared to pick BPA at #7. Because they may have to. If the opportunity presents itself for a trade down they should be open to it IMO. I honestly don't see huge numbers of guys I consider worth a top 10 pick this year. Maybe the few that are there will be gone by #7.

Totally untrue. The problem was we tried to get the max in return based off of the TVC. Instead of accepting less

A great year to trade down is by definition a terrible year to trade up (zero sum game), and most, if not all teams know that.

I'd love to pull a classic Pats this year. But I don't see it happening.

That's true all things being equal. However, teams needs and player values are not the same. This year as of now there are 7 elite players. So practically speaking this year should be easier to unload our pick.

Depending on who's gone...I wouldn't mind.

This makes sense. There wasn't a player worthy of the #1 pick back then, so it was unrealistic for the 49ers to get equal value in points.

I've been on the trade down bandwagon for a while now.
Would LOOOOOVE the 2 Pats picks.
1a. Aldon Smith, Ryan Kerrigan, Akeem Ayers or Justin Houston
1b. Brandon Harris, Aaron Williams or Adrian Clayborn, JJ Watt, Cameron Heyward
