Seems like he played well in that Illinois game. Looks like Vernon Davis on defense out there. The Duke (defensive version).

He schooled solder bad.....good pick new england i hope he is your starting tackle bc smith looks to be a good player especially against some of these tackles getting drafted high.
Smith may of been a reach...but your talking a few picks so its not a bad one at all especially if he is in the top few rookie olbs this year

BUMP
Some great stuff in this thread about the newest 49er.
That GoFD - pretty smart guy huh? Also good info on Baalke and the renewed emphasis on rushing the passer.

I sure hope Baalke and Harbaugh did their homework on this guy.
Why Smith and not Quinn???
Right now, I am having a hard time getting excited over this pick.

Quinn has a benign tumor in his brain that has to be checked every 6 months. I think that scared them away.

this guy reminds me alot of Lawson lol, maybe we re-sign him and have two huge OLBs

I was thinking the same thing but it helps that Smith is 260+ lbs. He looks a lot like Jason Taylor in terms of size.

Lombardi is the new draft wiz in my book and Aldon Smith is my new favorite rookie player in the NFL.

Depends on the style of 3-4 you play. Ideally, you'd have the size/bulk to hold up against the run, drop into coverage (and not look silly) as well as rush the passer. However, if you're more of an attacking-style 3-4 (like Belichick and Rex ), you're less concerned about Lbs playing in space and more interested in their ability to wreak havoc in the backfield. It's an issue, but not a big one, depending on what want your OLBs to do primarily.
Good call Ghost.

Damn Ghost great posts. Sounds like JPP with a motor and desire. Hopefully he pans out. Took some balls to make that selection at #7.
