Blaine Gabbert enters NFL draft

Look at who he has around him (Ted Ginn dropping passes left and right and receivers who don't get open save for Greg Olsen). You can't look at stats in a vacuum. He looks accurate when you watch him play, but he doesn't always have open targets so he has to throw the ball away at times and Carolina is 5th in the league in percentage of dropped passes.

This is an old article, but I imagine Cam's % of throws on target has only risen as the season has gone on since he's been putting up huge numbers of late and his completion % has risen from 54% to 58%. At the time this article was written, Cam was throwing the ball an average of 4 yards further down field and still on target more than Kaepernick. Accuracy still isn't his strength, but it's not a weakness at this point and he's great at moving in the pocket, has a huge arm, and is obviously valuable as a rusher. Coming into the league, Cam was not terribly accurate, but he's looked better this year and he should be over 60% next year with Benjamin back and Funchess hopefully playing better.

If a team had the courage to stick with Tebow for five years the way the Panthers stuck with Newton, and gave him the same stability and support around him, there wouldn't be much of a difference in their performances. The team makes the QB about 80% versus 20% of the QB making the team. There are hundreds of examples of that to draw from.

That's insane.

it's coming your way for that man. Have you ever seen Tebow throw a football? Serious question

MadDog won the raffle that year

Funny reading the old posts, Smith and Palmer were both being run out of town at the time. Quarterback fortunes go up and down, obviously.

Hmm.. Interesting Watt was not apart of his talented top 10

Tebow had some of the best numbers as a college player all time. I think he had the third highest passer rating all time behind Josh Johnson and Sam Bradford when he came out. Kept Newton's sorry ass pinned to the bench in Florida for two years before they ran the turd off campus for being a thief and an academic cheat.
The Newton vs. Tebow argument is a joke. Analysts were shocked when Tebow snuck into the first round which was based purely on his work ethic, popularity, and leadership. He has never had the tools Cam Newton has. Cam had a bigger and more accurate arm, was more comfortable in the pocket, had a much quicker release, and was a superior athlete. The guy was the #1 pick for a reason and is going to end up being one of the top QB's in the league in a few years. There was never a chance of Tebow becoming the best QB in the league.

The fact that no GM took a chance on him should be telling, but you seem to think you're a better evaluator than every GM and that Tebow could have been a franchise QB given time. Great college QB, but not a good NFL QB.

There's a much stronger argument for Cam making the Panthers good than the Panthers making Cam good. The team sucked before he got there and was instantly improved from his rookie season. He dealt with a terrible offensive line for the first 3 years of his NFL career, was forced to start from day 1, and the team got rid of his only good WR in Steve Smith Sr. Thank God they brought in Greg Olsen or they may have ruined him by surrounding him with garbage.

Tebow had a better supporting cast in Denver but he sucked. They aren't comparable.

Tebow has the same winning % in the NFL than Newton does, even with the Panthers on their current run, and he has a better playoff record. Difference is the Panthers stuck with Newt through all his crap (mainly due to the enormous investment), while the Broncos decided they needed to win right away and really didn't have a huge investment in Tebow.

Tebow got screwed by his insane religious following. He never got a chance to develop in the NFL. His career is over.

Now that cam is a week away from playing in the super bowl(in a season he's going to win mvp), I figured I'd bump this

Fantastic to read back, jrg on the Gabbert bandwagon, Palmer a good stop gap for 2 years. Need to bump more of these though the off-season before the draft to remind everyone keep your eyes wide open.
