So I haven't seen any Hawaii games except this last bowl game, but my goodness this guy jumped out to me as extremely talented. Watching some vids of him only confirmed that fact. He is a monster. He will be a sure-fire starter in the NFL. He has 1889 yards this year, over 100 ahead of the next highest. Its Hawaii, so not the strongest competition but still a huge number.
Salas has probably 4.45-4:50 speed, a big NFL-sized body 6'2", incredible hands, the power to break tackles, eagerness to run people over, and a little bit of juke to him. With the wealth of potential top receivers in this draft, a 4th round pick might be possible and good value. I would take him way earlier.
Highlights: I love the play at 3:53, the way he smoothly grabs the ball out of the air and then ploughs through the defense. Notice the YACs.
Running Power:
Very Strong Hands:
Deliver the BOOM:
Hands:
Beast:
Nice Route:
Going a little video crazy but its so much fun

Impressive, alot of people will say it was against weak competition, but you cant deny his ability to catch the ball out of the air with his hands. I also like his big body, very good for those 3rd down passes near the 1st down marker.
I wonder if he would be available in the 6th or 7th?

I always thought of him as a 6th round pick, and he'll probably go there due to a slow 40. I bet he runs a 4.60 or 4.57 at best. What I like about Salas though is the fight in him to get extra yards after the catch, he doesn't like to give up.

his YAC, hands, and route running are excellent. If we get Salas I would be very happy, he is going to be an excellent slot receiver in the NFL

As a UH fan I would love to see Salas on our team. He has amazing hands and his YAC is not just the ability to make people miss but he also has great balance and doesn't usually go down with first contact. He also has this unreal ability to know where the ball will be once it is thrown and even though he might be blanketed by one or two defenders he locates the ball and out jumps them before they can react to the ball. Because of his great hands he does the veteran move on waiting until the last moment to put his hands up so defenders who aren't looking back for the ball have no idea the ball is coming most of the time. I watched every game that he played in his career and the most valuable thing about him for UH is they had the ability to send him on routes on 3rd downs that were in front of the 1st down markers and would trust him to be able to beat the defenders one on one to get the 1st down. Kind of like the plays we used to call for Rice in the glory days. (calm down, I am not that much of a homer. He can't even hold Rice's jock, but they do have at least 1 similarity.)
The only problem is our team seems to be loaded with possession WRs and we probably would need more of a burner. However, I would not mind drafting him and getting rid of some of our current WRs. He probably will go either 3rd or 4th round. I think Mcshay has him at #15 and he will either go up with a strong Senior bowl or go down with a bad combine.

Gee whiz, Crabtree was an entering sophomore and hasn't even played two seasons worth of football. Crabs has been developing quite well considering the roller coaster ride at QB, the lack of any complements on the opposite side or speed in the slot to take pressure off of him, and has made some big plays this year.
He has 26 starts for his career, 6 short of a full two seasons. He has tripled his touchdown totals from last year. Upgrade the QB position, or get a legitimate complementary receiver and he'll be even better.

If Salas gets drafted by us he will be just as frustrated as Crabtree that his college QB was more accurate than anyone on our team. Crabs will be fine if we can get someone who can deliver the ball and a coach that wants to use the WRs to catch rather than block.

Salas in the 3rd is not a bad option but he looks like a guy that would thrive in the Colts system dude runs nice routes.

5th round pick at the highest IMO. This is a pretty deep WR class and that alone could make him fall that far. But I'm gonna say he runs a slow 40 that causes him to fall in the draft.

How about a big slot receiver.....good hands, quick, and will fight and go up and get it. Any chance we use a draft pick on him?

While I like Salas and think he will thrive, keep in mind he has the luxury of playing for a pass happy offense with lots of ops to make plays. He will be good if put in the slot. Yes he is strong and has good hands. Possibly the best UH receiver to come out.
For those who want burners-note Rice and Taylor were not burners, but were very good at getting yards after the catch.
