if lions got the 1st pick, might that open a tradeup for luck?

caro;ina likely to have only 1 chance for win (cardinals) in remaining games, and lions would have to lose out--and im not sure who picks 1t if its between 2 win carolina and 2 win setroit...but lions have $ tied up in stafford, they would be more likely open for trade
1) How do you propose Carolina wins another game? They are horrific.

2) If #1 is open for trade other teams will want it too. It's not just for us to waltz on in there. The price will be very high. Probably too high.

3) With 4 wins already we aren't in as good a position as you think. We are looking at #7 to maybe #15 or so if we win a few more meaningless games. It's not that easy to get to #1 from there. From #3 or #4 or so you can get to #1. But from those slots it's much tougher.

You Luck dreamers have to forget it. WE ARE NOT GETTING HIM. Dream on.

they wont trade with us they will trade with a pick higher than us who can acually match tht offer and value of the pick
what are you going to give them? What the hell would they want from us besides pretty much every single draft pick we have...

If the team's coaches and scouts think Luck is the second coming then I'm all for trading the house for him - He'd be worth it if he's an elite QB.

To answer the original question then yes if the Lions are No. 1 then it will make it easier to trade up, the Lions could trade down and still draft one of the top two cbs.

The only thing I'ma say is that they did come back against the Brownies (who were up by 14 at one point) and the Brownies have been better than the Cards.

Detroit could possibly win against Miami or Minnesota, and those chances increase IMO if Stafford can make it back for those 2 games.

Teams with the same record will be set by opponents W-L %, so if Carolina won another game Buffalo or Cincy could also be in play for the #1 pick. Cincy looks like the only team they could beat would be Cleveland and Buffalo has Miami and Cleveland.

I just don't think the 49ers will be willing to pay to move up to #1 as from where we will be drafting it will likely be too rich for our blood.
I say Carolina will be open to a trade. We have a history with our front offices and that team needs help in a major way at multiple positions. It would have to be a big trade and possibly lop sided in their favor, but imo the price is worth it. There is going to be an early run on QB's this year and we will have to move up regardless if we want a franchise guy.
Great point. Anything can happen at this point. People who think we have no chance are f**king idiots. The draft is 4 months away...anything is possible at this point.
Anything can happen from now until then. I Honestly think that if Caronlina has the 1st pick, Andrew Luck will be a Panther and they will trade Clausen for a late 2nd-early 3rd and a 4th round pick, maybe even a possible 2012 pick but I do not think they will pass on a chance to draft Luck.

If Detroit somehow ends up with the 1st pick, teams will have to give up the house for it because Detroit will KNOW that other teams will know Carolina will take him with the #2 Pick. Detroit will come away with A TON of draft picks if they end up with that 1st overall pick and still be put themselves in a position to take Peterson or Prince

1) panthers are going to play cards and probably john skelton--they have a chance to win that game.....and if pnathers are horrific what does that say about the 49ers who lost to the panthers?

2) niners may have to pay a higher rpice than others but if luck is as good as many think the price would be worth it

i've been listening to alot of whining about niners not having a qb, and yet some write off luck without even a 2nd thought..."oh blutto we might get in trouble if we try to get andrew luck"

the premium positions in the nfl are pass rusher, let tackle and cover corner, and most of all quarterback...arguably niners dont have anyone elite at those positions, though i think anthonydavis might eventually move to left tackle and be a fixture there for years

if you had to give up your entire draft in 2011 for luck, a ricky wiliams/ditka type trade, why not, you have your qb position filled fr the next decade ala peyton manning and the colts...fill in the holes missing from the draft picks lost with free agents, using the money saved from not having to pay the rookies (assuming there is free agency in 2011)

or alternatively offer lions some players rather than just all picks...iupati is probably going to be a nice player, but guard isnt an impact position and you can probably find an acceptable replacement later in draft or free agency..maybe not as good as iupati but someone that can do the job...or offer crabtree...you can find a receiver alot easier than a qb or left tackle or pass rusher..taylor mays or navorro bowman might be players lions (or panthers) might be interested in

what niners are doing now isnt working so im all for drastic measures

Carolina plays

Falcons = in a tight race with Saints, need every game
Cardinals = could win
at Steelers = in a tight race with Ravens, need every game
at Falcons = this last game at Atlanta, they could be 2-13 going in and IF the Falcons have clinched the division and playoff berth they COULD sit a bunch of players.

Slight chance Carolina ends up 3-13, chance 2-14 tie goes to Carolina due to strength of schedule, could end up 1-15 easily

Detroit plays

Packers = in a tight race with Bears, need every game
at Tampa Bay = in a tight race with Saints and Falcons, need every game
at Dolphins = SLIGHT chance they win, edge to home team playing for pride
Vikings = New head coach playing last home game for job next year

Slight chance they end up 3-13, likely end up 2-14

Bengals play

at Steelers = in a tight race with Ravens, need every game
Browns = they have a good chance of winning this game
Chargers = Chargers are getting on a late season roll, SLIGHT chance the win
at Ravens = in a tight race with Steelers, need every game for playoff position

Slight chance they end up 4-12, likely end up 3-13, could lose out 2-14

Bills play

Browns = they have a good chance of winning the game
at Dolphins = SLIGHT chance they win, edge to home team playing for pride
Patriots = nope, they don't lose games like this, Jets too close
at Jets = in a tight race with Patriots, need every game for playoff position

Slight chance they end up 4-12, likely end up 3-13, could lose out 2-14

Broncos play

at Arizona = they have a chance of winning
at Raiders = don't think they win this one
Texans = they have a chance of winning
Chargers = Chargers are getting on a late season roll, SLIGHT chance the win

Slight chance at 6-10, slight chance of 5-11, good chance of 4-12, slight chance of 3-13

Cardinals play

Broncos = they have a chance of winning
at Panthers = they have a chance of winning
Cowboys = New head coach playing for job next year
at Niners = Not likely

slight chance at 5-11, good chance at 4-10, slight chance 3-9

So there is a very very small chance that Detroit, Buffalo or Cincinnati could have the top pick. Niners look like they will go 6-10 which is probably too low to trade up into number one, we would need a #3-5 overall to realistically make that trade. We might be able to double trade up with say one of the higher slots then try to move up again. Not likely at all.
