No thanks. That's way too early for a 3-4 DE, IMO. Guys like Suh and Ngata are worth drafting that early, but they don't come along often. Dareus should be a really good pro, but I think we have bigger needs than DE.
Every year we see players like Gerald McCoy, Tyson Alualu and Dan Williams get hyped up and they are solid players, at best. Dareus is a much better fit for us in the 3-4 than those others, but we need a topflight CB. Those are much harder to draft. Drafting that early, you need special players at the hard to fill positions.
I guess I'm biased to the CB position because I'm sick of seeing our secondary get killed by any WR with a double move or a little bit of speed. I'm eye-balling the CB class and it's looking like a good year, especially if a few Juniors declare:
-Patrick Peterson: Probably already out of our reach. Hope he likes Carolina
-Aaron Williams
-Prince Amukamura
-Janoris Jenkins
-Brandon Harris
If that "special" player isn't there when we draft, I hope we trade down and acquire picks. The crop of 2-3 rounders could really help out... Jimmy Smith, Ras-Dowling, Shareece Wright, Davon House, Curtis Brown, etc.

Amukamura is going to need a good combine to establish elite speed.
Ingram looks like he is set to fall down the first round.
OT, this year is not supposed to be strong but the last few years have had at least 6 OT's taken in the first round. I think we are going to see a couple over drafted.
I think some teams are going to talk themselves into being able to find a WR later in the draft and they will be under drafted in the first round and the second round will be a WR/CB bonanza.

No thanks, rather have a pass rusher or a QB. Rather have Mallett than Dareus. Dareus won't do much for us, the reason our 3-4 sucks is because we don't have a pass rushing OLB and we don't have a NT. That pick changes neither of those things. Really rather switch to the 4-3 and draft an end like Quinn who will actually produce.

Could go either way, though I am not sold on Mallett, even though he will likely be a top 10, maybe top 5 pick. I still think the 49ers would be best off if they could trade for a vetran QB like Carson Palmer (a 3rd rd pick this yr and next) and then maybe move down in the draft and get a Corner and either a pass rusher or D-Lineman. In the 2nd rd, they could move up a few spots and maybe have a shot to get a Newton, Locker or maybe even an Andy Dalton)

so PP7, an impact CB who can make a contribution at a position of HIGH NEED is available but you give us Newton, who more likely than not would at least have to sit for a couple of seasons before being able to be productive for us?
FAIL, BIG FAIL

Newton and Harbaugh paired. That really could be scary.

I would be very interested to see what Harbaugh could do with Newton. Also, I wonder if Harbaugh would want to trade for Josh Johnson, his former QB at San Diego who is stuck behind Josh Freeman. I think Josh Johnson can be a good NFL starting QB.

Why not? He was already a top 5 pick and after the dominating performance in the BCS game, He could easily go #1, especially since the Panthers badly need a stud D-Lineman like Fairley. As for Locker, I think he could go as high as top 10 and could even fall out of the 1st rd. I also think Cam Newton will fall out of the first round when it is all said and done.
