Do we keep Alex Smith for '11 even if we draft a QB in the first round?

Exactly. Would he desire to stay? That's uncertain. I wouldn't be surprised if we did try for a small one-year extension. Say we draft someone we expect to start at some point in the season -- At the very least we'd have a capable player behind him -- not a guy like Carr..

I think he deserves to play on a team that knows how to utilize his skills. I think he got screwed by 49ers. I'm sure he's gonna be good on a different team. I don't think he can succeed with this team, though.
draft Luck, play Smith in 2011 until Luck is ready, if smith plays well and Luck is almost ready, trade smith.

1) What makes you think Luck will even come out?
2) If he does Buffalo will get him.

I think the only way Luck comes out is if the Niners have the #1 pick. Even then it's iffy. I think we'll end up with Mallett or Locker if we're picking ahead of the Bills.

i hope we dont draft a qb in the 1st round unles his name is luck our secondary is the biggest problem of this team

I think our lack of pass ruch is the biggest problem. If the quarterback can eat his lunch in the pocket, then he'll eventually find someone open.

No, time to move on from Alex Smith. Only QB worth keeping around is Troy Smith.

THIS

Six years of SSDD has not improved the team. Time to move on.

I've seen him play before, in college and in Baltimore. He throws with a lot of zip on his passes and shows a lot of potential. He would've been the starter in Baltimore if they didn't draft Flacco.

As for A. Smith, I'm ready to move on from his inconsistent play. Its best we cut our losses and start fresh at the QB position. I don't know how some people could keep holding on to hope that hes one day gonna be an elite QB in this league. Seriously how many more losing seasons is it gonna take for some to realize he just doesn't have it???

While this may seem like an ok move for us...it's a retarded move for Smith and Condon. Smith needs to finish this year as strong as he can and bail for another team while his stock is "high." His stock will be artificially high if he comes back and plays decent against a soft schedule.

Smith coming back next year would be a really poor business decision on his part. It would be an extremely risky move for everyone involved and would be based on Smith playing lights out after coming back from injury. Even then...why would he ever want to come back? He'd have to go 16-0 every year to not hear boos and get sht from fans. Smith is the whipping boy in SF now. He needs to go somewhere and get a fresh start with a team thats well coached and runs an offense catering to his stregnth.

thats true but i was just saying that would be the ideal situation. the question is if we should keep smith even if we draft a rookie. ofcourse it all depends on if he wants to resign but id say bring him back. maybe the new coach likes him, gruden was all about smith in any interview he's talked about him in, im sure there are others who believe he can be a good QB in the right system. i think smith deciding to stay with the niners will be based on who is the HC next year.
Oh the symmetry.....11 in 11. It is a sign that he will have a huge year. Gotta keep him around.

Troy was scheduled to start week 3 but got sick, which led to the Ravens starting Flacco. From the games i saw he isn't terrible. He has accuracy on his deep throws, has mobility in the pocket, but does tend to make some bad throws on the move.

That was 6 years ago before he snapped a ball in this league. Besides Gruden ain't going to be and neither will Alex.
