Prospect Watch: (9/2 - 9/6)

Well, folks it's back! Your weekly Prospect Watch thread has returned. Now, just as last year, I cannot promise I will have the time to put every game's prospects on here, but I will do the best I can. Understand that this is a very time-consuming task, and some games I may weigh heavier on than others when it comes to match-ups I feel you should focus on.

We've got some terrific games to open the season with this week starting on Thursday all the way through Monday.

I'm guessing you don't get Versus. But don't worry, there are several others to be added later -- when I get the time -- that will be on ESPN, ABC, and NBC.
YAY! Its back!! OTC who are you favorite CB's for this draft? I see CB, WR, and DE as real needs for us this draft!
OTC go find us a damn CB

Can you make that favorite and most realistic chance of falling into our draft range like pick's 15-25?

Five CB's that I'll be closely evaluating this year:

1. Prince Amukamara, Nebraska - Obviously I've been touting him as my favorite entering this season.

2. Davon House, New Mexico St. - Strong man-to-man corner.

3. James Dockery, Oregon St. - Not a guy expected to be a high rounder, but a talented kid nonetheless that could make a move up with strong play.

4. Chris Culliver, South Carolina - Great KR ability, but would like to see more big plays on defense.

5. Shareece Wright, USC - Ruled ineligible last season, but worked hard to get eligibility for their bowl game, where he recorded an interception. It'll be interesting to see if that was a sign of what he would've done all year or not.

great job as always OTC,

And again this year, if you need a place to upload your files, you have a free slot on my hosting,
Bump for Update: Completed.
while we're at it, and this is strictly a homer question, does Shane Vereen project as a pro after this season or what's the scouting report on him?

and are there any other Cal players that should we watch for? I hear great things about Mike Mohamed but hey may just be another Zack Follett (who I haven't heard much from since he went to the NFL)

Holy s**t! He KILLED Amandola..

As per Vareen, I believe he will definitely be a pro. I don't know if he'll be a Jahvid Best pick but with his vision and explosiveness, he will for sure be a 3rd or above round pick.

follett is slated as the starter this season.

As for Mike, being a homer myself, I;d like to see the 49ers draft him.

If the draft was today he'd be a 4th-5th rounder. Has good speed, good instinct, seems to understand the game well.

However, I dont think he is strong enough to shed blockers at the NFL level and will struggle in that regard.

Follett was just an outstanding player and anyone could tell he was going to bring something special to the field no matter where he played. Loved Zack's play at Cal.

Mohamed is indeed a middle round guy until he does more to show he's above that grade. He's one of those guys you'd expect to come in and immediately contribute on ST's and in some back-up packages, but may not shine right away.

Shane Vareen now, unless he has a monster year, I would not advise him to come out. He'd be a mid to late round pick right now. Talented kid, no doubt, but doesn't have the eye-popping numbers.

This may be a poor example, but look at a guy like Dixon (who really was a steal -- he was given a third round grade by me), excellent numbers and a proven workhorse, but fell to the sixth round. And that was as a senior. Vareen needs a tremendous year if he wants to go earlier than the 5th or 6th round if he were to enter.
Mizzou's DE Aldon Smith, Sophmore - Wow, this guy is legit! Next season he will be a top 10 pick
