49ers sign WR Shay Hodge

A big, physical wide receiver, who runs crisp routes and possesses strong hands, Hodge had an impressive Senior Bowl week, but didn’t show the straight-line speed scouts wanted to see this offseason. He was timed at a 4.62 in the 40 at the Scouting Combine and a 4.55 at his Pro Day. Hodge had a productive career with the Rebels, and is a player to keep an eye on in the future.

70 catches for 1100 yds not bad for UDFA

The Niner's have signed a lot of WR's from UDFA. Interesting. Not to mention Williams in the 6th.

sounds like they might be looking to replace a current wide out or two.
Few UDFA's even make the practice roster, much less the team at all. Names are great to throw out there, but hard to get excited about any UDFA. Training camp fodder for the most part. 1-2 might make the practice squad but others will be gone before the end of summer.

With that said, it is a good opportunity for them to showcase their talents for other teams who may have needs. And you never know who explodes on the scene for you. But hard to get amped about any of these signings.
Hodge can play...he looked good at Ole Miss. His production went down as Snead's did...but he's an excellent addition. I really like the quality of our UDFA's...which speaks to the depth of the draft, but also that Baalke/Singletary are on their game.

Because, the 49ers need the dangerous weapons the offense spread it.
