In Baalke's recent 'news-speak' he digressed that he would be strongly open to even moving up in the 2nd round if there was somebody out there they'd really want in relation to their draft board. (And since Trent didn't lie about the possibility of moving up in the 1st round -4 days ago- I'm going to assume something could go down).
So the question is... who would be that player, what point would we pull the trigger, and what kind of package would we be offering?
My best guesses are either Sergio Kindle, Nate Allen, or even Taylor Mays at one point. Kindle or Mays are my front-runners since Sing loves Mays, and the rumors of Lawson being traded away for a mid-round pick.

What would we trade to trade up? Picks for next year? I mean nobody's going to take our 6th or 7th. Lawson maybe, but I'd prefer to use him on another pick. BTW Where do you guys hear that Sing loves Mays? I'm not a huge fan of Mays honestly, I want Chad or Reshad Jones instead. I'd be happy with Kindle though. I think we might have a chance to land Nate Allen at 49.

If we're going to be moving up, it's going to be for either this year's 3rd or some picks next year - probably a 3rd + some.
Does anybody think that this is advisable? Just wondering.

No I think that after trading away 4 to move up and 5 for TGJ, that we need to excersize some patience here. There are QB needy teams ahead of us and 2-3 decent prospects there, as well as some teams who will be picking OLine still. A good player will fall to us.

I remember Sing salivating over Mays at his USC pro-day (this was around last month when Sing started to take a bigger role in scouting/McCloughan going up skid row).
With Mays out there for the taking it recalls the faint memory of last year when Sing wanted to trade up in the 2nd for Rey Maualuga. But by the time Scot put his ass into gear it was too late and the Bengals picked him, so when Ray went off the board we ultimately traded out our 2nd to Carolina for the #17th (Iupati) pick.
Something tells me this time Sing won't make the same mistake twice.

I don't think that they were looking to trade up 3 spots in the 2nd round last year...

Sing really did want Maualuga though cause we were targeting Takeo Spikes' replacement (which led to us drafting McKillop as a band-aid/possible project solution)

Yeah, I know both Singletary and McC were gunning for him, but I don't think that they were that much gun-ho that they were attempting to trade up.

Actually Baalke has said that he is not afraid to use picks from next years picks to either move up to get someone they like or to make additonal picks tomorrow. It depends on who is there.
As I said, this is Baalke's chance and Singletary's chance to keep their jobs. So they will do whatever they can to keep it, including giving away picks next year. If a player they covet is still there.
What I didn't like was what he said to the media-he was going to sleep and get ready for tomorrow. He can do that after tomorrow. because you can be sure there are going to be teams making phone calls after they reorganize and reassess their boards tonight. Don't want him to wake up and go how th f@$* get the #44 pick or whatever.
If the team makes the playoffs next year in spite of a bad year by Smith, the team will be set for either a veteran QB, or do what the jets did and go for broke in the draft next year for a QB.

I wouldn't trade up, there will be plenty of good players to fill our needs when we get to our pick. If anything they should consider trading DOWN if their prime targets aren't available and get a pick or two back.

Move up to take Kindle. His pass rush ability will help out our secondary. We still need help in the back.
But you kinda kill one bird and injure another with one stone. Get a pure pass rusher to get to the QB and that helps the back end.
