Mike Mayock, NFL Network
182 -- 49ers -- TE Nate Byham
NFC West, watch out! The 49ers just added the second-best blocking TE in the draft. Byham, from Pitt, is an inline thug who will knock people off the ball and create space for Frank Gore and Anthony Dixon. Mike Singletary and Trent Baalke are making a philosophical statement about who the 49ers will be.

I saw/have heard a lot of this guy, he'd be a good ST player/3rd-down TE option on 1-2 yard situations where we'd need an extra road blocker outside the tackle. I also heard glowing reports that he's a good stunt-sniffer in passing situations (as Pitt ran a spread/run hybrid system), so I think we're definitely going to be a balanced football team again (other than how people still suspect we're gonna be a stoic running team).

My best friend coached this kid in high school. He could have gone to any college he wanted but stayed at Pitt because he was raised by his grandfather, who is wheelchair bound and very poor and wanted to be close to him to help him. My buddy said he is an extremely hard worker, super humble, and LOVES football. Whether he makes it or not remains to be seen, but I can tell you he is a high character, hard working guy. I'll be pulling for this guy every step of the way.

Agreed. It actually looks like that all of our draft picks WILL be a factor and not just a training camp body to be cut after pre-season.
