No way the 49ers take a qb in the 1st, Bradford & Clausen will be long gone by the 13th pick.
On the other hand the 49ers must pull the trigger on Spiller at 13 if he's available. He is the lone man that can significantly impact the 49ers 2010 season, imagine great field position & a home run threat with versatility unmatched.
Yes the 49ers need help upfront, but Spiller makes the OL's job easier by puting the defense on their heels. Not to mention he can make a lot of guys miss in the open field and has a knack for weaving through traffic.
and gore doesnt? they stack the box for gore so qb will have more options.... I don't understand your thought process. But I would love spiller
If you don't understand how a back like Spiller helps the OL you don't know football. I've played OL in high school & college, when you have a guy that can take it the distance from anywhere on the field it makes your job a lot easier. A rb with great speed shortens the amount of time blocks must be held for.
Gore is a very solid back, but his skill set is much different from Spillers.

i like spiller at 13 and the bpa between hayden, thomas, Davis, iupati or Brown at 17.
And Spiller is fast but gore takes runs the distance as well and can block and make people miss and breaks more tackles than spiller for sure....so the OL will not have to hold blocks as long HOWEVER gore made the OL look better than it really was and made their job easier the same as spiller would do

Ah, they're a bunch of yahoo's.... Seriously, I see no scenario in which Singletary/Baalke would do that. Spiller, maybe. Clausen most likely will be off the board at #13, anyway. I'd much rather see them take Haden and Davis or Davis and Iupati.

One of the things you may not know, is that Spiller has proven to be a pretty good blocker. Just thought you ought to know. I do think that whatever we do we need to use one of the 1st round picks for an OT. I don't think Iupati will be an OT, and it would be very difficult to pass on Hayden or Thomas if they were there.

Once you accept the fact that Alex Smith is not and will never be the answer at QB you realize a high pick at QB is inevitable. If Claussen grades out might as well get out of the way now.
The reality of this draft is the best tackles will be off the board by the time we pick. All we'll have to choose from is a fat lazy slob, and possibly an Al Davis pick.
As for Iupati there's no way in Hell can you justify taking a guard over a QB.

Guys,
Something to consider here.
The general consensus is that the top 3 or so OT's will be off the board when #13 comes around and the next tier of tackles isn't worthy of a first round pick.
If that's the case then going Spiller/Clausen in the first isn't so bad as long we plan to use our second round pick to address the tackle situation.
If not then I agree that this gets a bit sketchy.

Im afraid this will happen. I actually think the top 4 tackles will be gone by 13 and Campbell is not worth a top 20 pick.
While I would love to have a top OT out of the 1st, I would be more upset if the niners reached at 13/17 on a tackle, rather than take the BPA at a position where we might already have a good player.

I dont really want Clausen either, but I would agree with one thing. If the top four OT's are gone, done draft one in the first. We should only be looking for a first round tackle if the guy is going to play on the left. If we draft anybody who can't unseat Staley in the first it is a wasted pick. Guards and Right Tackles are second - third rounders. Give me Haden or Spiller with 13 and trade back in first plus up in second for a combo of Ducase and Lupati.

I agree with the Spiller pick, we can say all day that we need o-line help (and we do) but if the top couple prospects are gone I'd be happy waiting til a later pick to address this need. I really don't want to see Clausen in a Niner uniform, there is so much available talent at the 17th pick I'd hope they can work a trade to someone that wants Clausen and get a pass rusher, tackle, or secondary guy later in the 1st.

Spiller will not be a 49er pick anymore with Ted Ginn Jr. on the team! Change your mock drafts!

That would be the worst draft of all time.
