For those against the Clausen pick:
Hypothethically speaking, let's say Alex Smith has exactly the same year as this past one for this argument's sake. (an average one and he isn't resigned)
What's your contigency plan for solving the most important football position (if we didn't draft Clausen)?
1) Give the job to David Carr?
2) Give the job to Nate Davis? (Some 49ers don't like him now even after a promising preseason. What makes you think the same fans will be comfortable after another promising preseason)
3) Mortgage next's year draft for one player? (I hope you realize that if the 49ers finish 8-8 again this season, they won't be in a position to draft a franchise QB. And who knows what the QB prospects will be like next year. Jevan Snead and Colt McCoy were highly ranked last year and today, they are no longer 1st round picks. Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett could fall flat on their face this upcoming season)
So what's your plan B again?
