No need, I am an idiot sometimes also. I wanted Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning, which is embarrasing to admit, but true. I also hated the Aldon Smith pick and love it now. So I am often wrong.

Simply put I am a huge fan of TE's and was thinking with more 3-4 defenses, multiple talented TE's can do well. I only re upped it because I read today that Gronkowski broke the TE single season record, so one of the few times I was right. Then again he has Brady throwing to him, but I still think he has better hands than anyone on the 9ers TE's.

i could see davis owning that record with brady throwing to him as well

gronk would have only tied the record at 14 if singletary wasn't such a turd

He has 15 TDs and over 1k yards with 3 games left.
Lol at the haters here still...seeing as how chad ochocinco has Tom brady why isn't he putting up these numbers? Why doesn't Deon Branch have 15tds??? Give credit where credit is due people!

How about no, I don't wanna hear you out. We could stand to get better at WR but we don't need to waste any picks on a TE unless he is a late round blocking specialist and even then

I just want to re up this thread to show how BPA and having big TE's help with teams in the red zone. Gronkowski would have helped this team this year, he could have lined up at TE, double TE, or WR.

The people who did not want Gronkowski where dead wrong!!

you dont get credit for calling it...you didnt even know what his last name was. besides, without Tom Brady and the Patriot offense, he wouldnt be this dominant. on our team this year he wouldve just been like VD, getting double teamed.
Get over it. He has Tom Brady throwing to him and Brady doesn't have tons of other really good targets. So he gets lots of opportunities. And we didn't need TE's. We have 2 good ones.

There's no guarantee he's doing anything special here. It's great that you spotted out potential, but I have a feeling that if Gronkowski was selected by the Seahawks you're not bumping this thread right now.

alex is great throwing to TE

but the thing that makes grokowki great is he doesnt drop anything

he may not only have the best hands for a TE but one of the better ones in the nfl now

And he's huge and a freakin beast to tackle. He can have 2 - 3 guys hanging on him and drag them to the endzone.

And who has the single season touchdown record?

Last time I checked it was Randy Moss with Tom Brady as his qb. Nobody is taking away credit from him, but you gotta to be frickin kidding yourself if you don't think playing with a top 3 quarterback doesn't inflate numbers.

In case you forgot how the league works.

Randy Moss with no quarterback in Oakland compared to the following season with Brady

42 catches 553 yards 3 touchdowns
98 catches 1498 yards 23 touchdowns

It's not taking anything away from Gronkowski, but you don't put up this kind of numbers without the opportunities, and there's a small amount of quarterbacks who can provide those opportunities.

We haven't thrown the seam route that made Vernon into a 13 touchdown machine all season. Our red zone offense is the worse red offense in football. That's not because of Vernon, and Gronkowski wouldn't change that either. You put Gronkowski here, and we're still going to be conservative as Hell in the red zone. Alex Smith and our receivers still wouldn't be able to exploit 1-1 matchups on the outside either.

New England demands perfection. It's apples and oranges. I don't know what Vernon would be in New England but I do know if Vernon dropped a pass Brady would chew his *ss out.

He wouldn't have much ass left then! Don't suppose Brady would like him going down at first contact either.

Vernon gets YAC. Yeah he occasionally dances too much instead of plowing someone over, but you can't ignore that he does pick up YAC as good as any tight end of the course of his career. 5.4 yards per catch. If you got someone who tops that I'd like to see it.
He's a good TE but I dont know how much better he is than Vernon...

I'd take Jimmy Graham over any TE in the game right now though.
would rather have Rob Gronkowski

It's pretty much:
1. Gronk
2. Graham
3. everyone else

Vern would be somewhere like 7 or 8 right now. He's an awesome player but he's played better before and we're not using him most effectively this year. Guys like Finley and Gonzalez are having better years than he is also.

Vernon likes to drop easy catches for big gains or TD. That's why he is a solid above average TE, but not Great!
