This was a tough pick and Niners could have gone in several directions here. But, Niners will stay true to their board and draft the BPA who also fills a need.
With the 13th pick, in the 2010 NFL draft, the SF 49ers select:
Jason Pierre-Paul, OLB, South Florida

Seattle took care of DL earlier in the draft. Now, they will take care of the opposite side. Pete Carroll will pull the trigger on his guy from USC - the best pure pass-protector in the draft - who is rising up the boards.
With the 14th pick, Seattle Seahawks select: Charles Brown, OT, USC

I thought the same. I don't see the niners passing on Williams. And i really don't see the seahawks taking Brown over Williams (even with Carroll).

The New York Giants stay true to their draft board and select Bama LB Rolando McClain.
Trent Williams would have been solid value here but McClain is a much bigger need right now. Both are pretty high on the Giants draft board but plenty of solid O lineman available in the next few rounds.

Titans are shocked and surprised to see him still available. Tennessee selects the relentless one, Derrick Morgan, DE from Georgia Tech.

Trent Williams is a better RT than a LT. Seahawks need a LT, not a RT.

Just my oppinion : You (as the gm for the seahawks and 49ers) looked at the draftboard, realized that the giants and titans don't need an OT and so you took the JPP pick for the niners at #13, knowing that you would not take him at #14 with seattle and knowing, that you would have him available at #17. Just my 2 cents.
I think in a real draft that risk would have been to high to be left without an OT or reaching for the niners if they would pass on Williams at #13.

The steelers have a hole at CB and they need a safety, too. Why not take a player who could play on both position
Earl Thomas, S/CB
Iuapti would have been the other option here, but i think this spot is just too high for an OG.

Or..........I looked at the board, and figured - Trent Williams or Anthony Davis, or Charles Brown will be there at 17. I'm personally not a fan of Anthony Davis, but since 49ers are showing some interest in him (though it could easily be a smoke-screen) I would have drafted him at 17 if Williams was taken by the Giants.
If Niners needed a LT - I would have taken Charles Brown at 13. He is the best pure pass-protector in the draft IMO and once he improves his strength - he will be a damn good LT.
Regardless of what Williams did in the 40 yard dash at combine - I just don't think he has enough quickness to be consistent at LT. He is a RT in my opinion - which is why I believe he will fall a bit on D-day.

I disagree that the Giants don't need an OT. Diehl is better suited at OG and they are supposedly thinking about cutting Kareem McKenzie because of his high price tag. Beatty looks to be the LT of the future for this club and Trent Williams would give him a solid compliment on the other side.
It wasn't really an easy decision to pass on Williams with him falling a little lower than I imagined. I just felt McClain could give them more of an impact right away on the defensive side of the ball. The Defense right now needs more work than the offense IMO. I also didn't really care for the talent at LB in the next few rounds compared to a potential stud like McClain.
