BigBugs Mock 2.0 (Top 5 Defense after this one!!!)

I wouldn't consider Capers and Black the guys to really upgrade our OL. Do you really want middle-of-the-road OL? I don't. I want someone who's got the ability to potentially start his rookie season, at both OT and OG. We can do that in the 1st rd, taking best OT and Iupati. That's the biggest priority...not pass rusher or another S. CB is more critical than S, and you don't pick one 'til the 5th rd. Draft your OL from the get-go, then you've got 7 picks to address the other positions. You can get an impact DE, OLB or CB in 2nd/3rd rds...by then the best OL will be long gone. I want to see us address the weakest areas first...that's how you strengthen them.

3rd most sacks in the league is now defined as 'mediocre'.

If you say so...

You're kidding right?

Don't be fooled by stats my friend. Our pass rush was invisible all too often.

5. (145)- CB/PR- Javier Arenas, Alabama
6a. (181)- RB

Alualu seems a little bit high and DE is very crowded already. Capers and Black are ok where you pick them, but i don't think they would make an immdediate impact. Black is too slow footed for for playing RT imo. Arenas will never fall to round 5. And why should we pick a RB in round 6 ? If we pick a RB he must be a gamechanger with return abilities. You don't get such a guy in round 6.

FWIW Terrell Davis was a 6th round pick, as was Chester Taylor. Derrick Ward, Ahmad Bradshaw (who has return abilities), Justin Forsett (who has return abilities)and LaRod Stephens-Howling (who has return abilities) were all 7th round picks. Good RB's can be found there including guys with return abilities but for every one you find there, there are dozens and dozens who don't pan out.

This is true. What i wanted to say is, that i don't think the niners will go RB anywhere in this draft if they don't go early. They have drafted a mid round RB to be a backup last year and so i think there will be no late round rb pick

I actually think the opposite. I think if they don't take Spiller or Best in the 1st or 2nd that they aren't likely to address it until late(rounds 5-6-7), looking for simply a change of pace type of back who could compete for KR/PR as well.

Guess we are just looking at the glass differently.

They did exactly that last year with Sheets and it did not work out at all. Bu we will see :)

btw : the glass is half full

Sheets was a UDFA.

Agreed it's half full, but I am looking at the glass from the right side not the left

Well said.
I think we had close to a top ten defense last year. I think the team needs more help and consistency on OFFENSE as opposed to defense. That is just me though.

GO NINERS!
Selvish Capers sucks.

Well, you could explain how concentrating on our strength is going to help us become a more balanced side. And why taking a couple of O linemen fairly early then precludes us from assisted the pass rush and the db's.

But no amount of help on the o-line is going to help Smith make better decisions. He has cost this franchise too many games with ineptness.

Disagree

So you propose to continue to have a crap O line thus ensuring that any qb struggles. Oddly, I don't see this as a sensible strategy
