Espn Draft Busts and Gems: Niners

Lets be accurate though. He has remained a starter on of the very worst offenses of the decade, thus there were always many other holes to plug.

So you can be drafted in the 6th, career starter and bad all at the same time.

Alex Smith is there, but not Rashaun Woods?

All time busts, that's a terrible list
there are a ton of bigger busts in the niners history

Reggie McGrew has gotta show up on this list somewhere

He was such a bust that ESPN forgot he was even in the NFL.

I hear the literal Cajun translation of Reggie McGrew is "useless vagina".

Ugh..McGrew. He was supposed to be a force inside on the d-line., turned out to be lazy and was marginal as back up.

Another guy that underachieved was Todd Kelly. Drafted the same year as Dana Stubblefield in the 1st round. Was supposed to be charles Haley's replacement at the elephant position and the guy couldn't provide any pass rush whatsoever.

Alex Smith?!? Whaaaa?!?!!

Don't they remember that awesome game against the Seahawks in 2006? Not to mention that this will only be his 6th season, he's still learning!

Still learning in his 6th season hmmmmmmmmmm somithing is terribly wrong with this statement!

LMAO!! enough with all the excuses for Alex, this will be his make or break year !! If Alex can win 10 games this season and the division, and lets say.. throws for 3,400+yds 24+tds -16int you can wipe that bust off his name and with those numbers can possibly add a pro bowl next to his name at 26yrs old

You think he is a bad player? Disagree. But regardless, while most 6th round picks are pumping gas he has done a job for us.

Busts: Quarterback Alex Smith (2005) and receiver Harry Babcock (1953) are the only players drafted first overall by the 49ers. Smith still has a chance to change his legacy, but so far it's not looking good. The 49ers whiffed on Steve Spurrier with the third overall choice in 1967. Jim Druckenmiller stands out as a memorable first-round disappointment in more recent years.

Niners 2010 Draft = gold or fools gold? I hope the former!!

exactly right. It's a fair assessment - although I think that bust should no longer apply. It's all on Smiff now to REMOVE ALL DOUBT, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. Good luck kid, all eyez on U, go 49ers.
