MadDog Big 200 Board- Post Senior Bowl Edition

Hey MadDog thanks for all the hardwork!

I'm hearing some experts (namely Mike Mayock) projecting a possible fall for Eric Berry out of the top ten, what are the odds this happens? He is on the smaller side, what would his measurables have to be to push him down to us?

Sorry for being off the board for so long, everyone. I will return back soon.

Eric Berry has zero chance of making it past number 7, unless he decides to break the law in the next few weeks. The Browns at number 7 have tons of needs, but Brodney Pool may not even be in the NFL by the start of 2010, and the team desperately needs a defensive QB. Berry is one of the few elite players in this draft.

Berry is not going to be tall. In fact, I expect him to be around 5'9 1/2", but he's just a terrific back-end defender. We've seen a number of shorter safeties become very successful in the NFL recently, as long as they have speed and good field awareness. Check both statements for Berry.

So, for those crazy mocks that have him falling to us at 13, they just aren't rationally possible.

Unless the Raiders somehow trade and get four picks in the 7 to 12, Al Davis is allowed to watch all the 40s times, and Al makes all the picks.
The 37-67 zone looks full of players we could use, safeties, corners, pass-rushers, OLs. Almost wish we had three 2nds instead of two 1sts, like NE does. I was wondering when you were going to move Alex Carrington up. 54 seems about right to me. I think we'd be interested in him but there are too many other needs. Do you have a guess about our 2nd? Nate Allen?

MD...nice job, man. WRT Iupati, some team may grab him in 1st rd, but I don't think it'll be the Niners. We all know how Mac feels about OG's...so I believe he'll be content to grab top OT available and get his OG maybe in rd 3. That would mean BPA in 1st and maybe CB in 2nd.

I think the Niners will have to take a long look at Nate Allen. He will probably be the best cover safety in this class, and the Niners need as much back end coverage help as possible.

You would hope the Niners are serious about getting their OL together in 2010. That is why I have no problem with using both our first rounders on OL, whether they be on an OT and Iupati or Pouncey.

With the Senior Bowl a wrap, and almost a full month of little news before the combine begins in late February, I have put up the latest installment of a Big Board, which will cover the first 200 picks. These picks should cover the bulk of the draft, through the sixth round.

Disclaimer for newcomers to the Big Board: This is NOT a mock draft, but a targetted area where I believe the player should fall. In other words, if I feel a player is most likely to be picked in the 14-20 range, my targetted number might be 17th overall.

The Big Board covers the angles for how I believe players will test out at the combine and campus workouts, at post-season bowl games and All-Star games, off the field issues, injury history, the methods and values placed on certain positions, etc. In other words, it is long-range projection.

This is also NOT a ranking of players, how I feel about their ability. This is how I perceive the draft to occur.

Questions, agitations, fury is welcome. I'll be happy to explain my rationale for any player. Any problems with format: Ex: Jimmy Clausen, DT, Western Mississippi, please let me know.

Couple notes: The Senior Bowl caused some major movement on draft boards, including arrows pointing up for Jared Odrick, Dan Williams, Kyle Wilson, Dexter McCluster, Alex Carrington, Geno Atkins and more. At the same time, the Senior Bowl exposed serious problems with certain players at the next level, who may have to change positions. Taylor Mays struggled big time all week, showing problems at FS, and will have to change to SS or LB at the next level. He simply cannot cover WR's in the secondary. At the same time, Tim Tebow also had a challenging time in transitioning to a pro-style offense. You will see him pegged on the board in the general area of the Jags in Round 2.

Final note: I have removed O'Brien Schofield off the Big Board after his ACL injury this week.

Cheers.

Nate Allen would be a nice addition beside Goldson in the secondary. Maybe we could grab his teammate CB Jerome Murphy later in the draft.
MadDog, can we expect a post-combine update?

If Gerhart was not white, he would be in the top 30 picks. Watched him in high school and college, he is a beast. Reverse racism raised it's ugly head. Would not be surprised to see him go in the first round to with SD, NE or Houston. Do not understand how you could have him listed so low even prior to Combine. His agent says his phone is starting to light up. Thanks for the good work. I know the draft is not a science.
