However, if we were to be aggressive in the offseason and fill 2 needs with a couple of new starters. Then traded down from #13 to the latter portion of the 1st and picked up a 2nd. Then used or 2 1sts on 2 key new pieces. I would be ok with grabbing Tebow with our 1st 2nd round pick. Because getting that 2nd, 2nd round pick it would be like having a free pick to play with. That would be the ONLY way i'd be ok with taking the gamble.
You're an idiot!

Tebow in the 2nd or 3rd is a solid marketing move. The Niners would get about 10 x the coverage on ESPN just for drafting him.
Too bad he'd have to sit for about 2 years behind Smith before his fundamentals can be fixed. At least his playbook wouldn't have to be "paint by numbers".

I honestly don't see Tebow going before the 5th round on pure athletic talent.
The idea that Tebow should be drafted "to sell tickets" would be a colossal mistake. The guy obviously isn't going to start Day 1, so why would fans buy tickets or buy season tickets to see a guy sit on the bench for at least two years?

Totally agree, now that's some "physical intangibles" the 49ers can build on.

I was reading an article that says Tebow might be better off going to the CFl for a couple of years to work on his game.
I heard Mcshay say what ive been saying, that eventually he is gonna be converted to another position in the NFL

Not that I am really all that high on Tebow but pretty much anything Todd McShay says you have to take the opposite of that so if hes saying Tebow cant play QB in the NFL then he might turn out of be a good NFL QB.

Tebow is coming from the same system that Alex Smith did, and doesnt pass as well as Smith did out of it. If people are complaining about Smith needing to play from shotgun, then they are really going to hate Tebow's conversion.

With the NFL moving more and more toward a passing league every year (look at Indy and NO), teams will use the spread offense, or some version of it, more and more. Threrefore, a team that has a starter now and a good QB coach, could pick Tebow and be rewarded in two years with a very tough leader who has the skills to be a threat out of the spread.
I don't see anything about Tebow that cannot be corrected but it will take a full season watching, plus all the OTA and camp time to mold his physical ability.
If he were there in the 4th round after other more pressing needs are met, I would not be opposed to drafting him. My premise would be that between Smith, Nate and Tebow, by 2012, one of them would be the unquestioned starter and another be solid trade material.
I believe Tebow can play in this league but will require two years before it happens. He has that ability to inspire and lead teammates. That is worth an extra half second in delivery time.
