MadDog's Early Big 100 Board

With one week to go before the NFL season ends, and only 18 days before the deadline to declare for underclassmen (January 15), I have put up the first installment of a Big Board, which will cover the first 100 picks. These picks should cover the first three rounds. In future installments, I will add to this number (Big 150, 200, 250, and the final board).

Disclaimer for newcomers to the Big Board: This is NOT a mock draft, but a targetted area where I believe the player should fall. In other words, if I feel a player is most likely to be picked in the 14-20 range, my targetted number might be 17th overall.

The Big Board covers the angles for how I believe players will test out at the combine and campus workouts, at post-season bowl games and All-Star games, off the field issues, injury history, the methods and values placed on certain positions, etc. In other words, it is long-range projection.

This is also NOT a ranking of players, how I feel about their ability. This is how I perceive the draft to occur.

Enjoy the four month ride, and let the games begin. To estimate where the Niners will select, I have a strong hunch the team will pick 12th and 15th in this draft (we'll have to see how the final games play out), then 47th, then 78th (Washington forfeits its 2010 3rd rounder for a supplemental pick in 2009, so the difference in between the 2nd and 3rd round is 31 picks).

Final note: It is difficult to know which juniors and eligible sophomores to include in the Big Board. Very few underclassmen have stated their intentions, but the list will surely grow with the ending of each bowl game. I have included declared underclassmen, and ones I feel are leaving.

Questions, agitations, fury (I am ready for the Cal fans) is welcome. I'll be happy to explain my rationale for any player. Any problems with format: Ex: Jimmy Clausen, DT, Western Mississippi, please let me know.

Newcomers want to pay special attention to OTC's comments, as he might be the most informed, non-paid draft expert in the galaxy. If he can build a website, he can do some damage.

Cheers.

Great road map for thought.

Question -- Do you think Haden will be available at 12?

If so, I think we should draft OT with 2nd pick as there seems to be more fall back choices for the OT position ie either Williams or Buluga.
Jahvid Best at 45, you better be ready for some angry Cal fans...

Hence, the disclaimer. Best can surely move up the board with some strong workouts. Much depends on his health. We'll soon see.

Haden is going to be drafted right in that area. To me, it's slightly less than a 50-50 shot. He is easily the class of the CB's in this draft, so his value is surely increased. That might be enough to push him into that top 10, which I currently project.

The Panthers' two game winning streak should concern fans. They have gone from a sure top 10 pick to a team that could rise all the way to the mid-first round, if they win and a few teams at 7-8 and 8-7 lose. I'll say the Saints win this week, but if they don't, the Niners could be sitting at 15 and 16. And, that is Bulaga and Iupati range, as Williams and Davis will be off the board.
So this is your mock draft hunh ?

Looks pretty good.

Oh, the disclaimers. You know I have to write them down, every time, underlined. Painful.

Cheers.

I read the disclaimer I was just busting your chops.

Given that scenario, I would opt for Iupati. To me the interior line needs more help than ROT. Both need shoring up.
Great job MadDog!
OMG we are going to take two players on defense what about our OL and secondary, we already have Spikes but we are going to take another ILB.

This is a terrible mock draft and you have no idea what you are doing.

MadDog -- I noticed you have Iupati listed as OT/G. you figure he's quick enough to move outside?
Norwood at 90? I think ur slipping a wee bit on that 1
Sweet . . . it's Christmas again!

Looks like a great draft year for the Big 12

As always MD

Few questions for you......

In one of you responses you stated the Niners could be sitting at 15 and 16. If this does happen who do you see being real targets? I know you recommended Bulaga and Iupati but do you see them has real viable options. Bulaga scares the hell out of me with his injury past and to draft a kid who ends up being Glassman II means Snyder is back starting again. I know you don't like the thought but would the 2nd round be smarter at that point and target Fox out of Miami for instance?

In that range my thinking is Spiller, McClain, Thomas, Graham, and yes Bryant would be the sexy options....am I over looking anybody?
